Hi fellow monks,
I have been trying to up my DPS (around 50k currently). I have decent crit chance (38.50%), but I think I lack crit damage (+187%). My current weapons have no sockets at all, and I am not comfortable with it since I see most good monks have sockets in their weapons. Is socket the way to go? If yes, I am looking forward to replacing my weapons. Whay type of weapons do I need, for mainhand / offhand? When do I consider weapons other than fist? My current mainhand has 1224 DPS but no crit damage or socket.....bad? I appreciate your advice. You can view my profit at the following link: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Douvinsky-1811/hero/6997476 Thanks much. |

Your main hand isn't terrible, but if your looking to raise your dps then you need crit damage + a socket... or very high dexterity on each weapon.
I went the easy route and got myself a Skorn. If I was you I would focus on getting more dex on the rest of your gear. |

Thanks. Is there a cap on the max Dexterity? I was thinking also maybe a slow weapon in the main hand is good since the max damage is higher. Maybe it affects SW initial damage? Btw I was searching for dex, socket and crit just now. Bought a 700 fist for only 40k and it boosted my DPS by a few thousand after I put in a 70% crit lol. You mentioned Skorn. Is there a special good build for 2h? Is slow hit a problem? |

I have been experimenting with a few types of weapons/ weapon stats.
I bought them from the AH and experimenting with them. At the end I don't like any of them and resold them (for profits!). My experience with legendaries: 1) Sun Keeper with crit damage and socket -- Nice boost to mainhand but too slow for my spirit regen - caused me a few deaths. I relist it and made a profit of 15 millions gross. 2) High 1000 DPS Sever - lack of nice stats. Resold. 3) Echoing Fury for the fear- could be good but I didn't spend gold to try it - haven't thought of a good combination of weapons for DW. What I am looking for but yet to prioritise for DW: 1) Sockets - for crit gems 2) Crit Dmg 3) LoH - current I do not use any LoH. I relies on globes. 4) LS - Could be a good addition. With higher DPS I prefer this rather than LoH. I am watching closely on this. 5) Spirit Regen - not sure if I need this at all if I have good attack speed. 6) Attack Speed 7) Primary Dex / Vit 8) Crowd Control abilities e.g. stun/ fear Do I have the complete list of considerations? What would be a good combination of mainhand / offhand? I guess I should be going for fast weapons for DW. |

1) Get more CD. Sockets with Radiant Stars are the thing you need for that. I don't care how hard your mainhand hits; it's pointless without a socket. 200% CD will give you A TON more damage, especially with the way DW monks work.
2) LOH is nice, but expensive. If you can find an offhand with it, I would try to get it. I've never fought without LOH, but I could see it being tolerable for most of the time. However, it certainly makes elite kills more time efficient. |

Thanks. Would you recommend legendaries? I am guessing Won Khim Lau is a must have, the additional lightning damage is too good to pass. The other weapon should be a fast one but rare with socket and nice stat is ok? |

For Main-hand: Echoing Fury for damage. Those things are hard to find for a reasonable price though. Depending on your budget, it might be more feasible to find a rare that hits hard. Ideally you want: 1) Near 1050-1100 (or more) DPS 2) Primary 3) Socket 4) CD (although this is going to skyrocket the price) Off-hand: Won Khim Lau is nice, but no LOH or LS. I found a pretty good rare with 600 LOH. This allows me to stack DPS stuff on rings and amulets while still having lifesteal. I think you want: 1) At least 750 DPS. The more, the better. 2) Natural CD. 50+ ideally. The more, the better. 3) Socket 4) Primary 5) LOH/LS if you want it I've been able to get up to 115k DPS unbuffed with 700 LOH while still maintaining the 4 set Inna's bonus (hello free sweeping wind!) with rather average Inna's pieces. My gear is good, but not even close to BiS. I researched a lot and did a lot of calculations, but I do more DPS and have better survivability than many monks who have billion gold gear. To break 100k DPS, you are going to need those weapons with about 2300+ dex, 40-45% CC, and 400% CD. I've found that any more DPS than that isn't really necessary since you will pretty much 2 shot most mobs and elites will go down in 5-10 seconds. |

Completed my Inna Set. A friend in game gave me an Inna Belt which he just looted with 10k globes free, after I told him I have no gold to pay him. Then I made some sales and quickly bought the Inna Chest to complete the set. The set bonus is amazing. I no longer need to worry about spirit resource management. I also chose the additional 15% spirit generation skill on Kormac. I think it helps in generating the spirit while hitting and none to the auto regeneration but I am not too sure. Brought my DPS up to 90k after buff, compared with my previous 50k, and I can immediately see the difference in terms of farming. I now feel powerful. I can now appreciate what you meant by 1 or 2 shots the monsters. With Echoing Fury, I suffered even less damage as monsters are feared or killed in the first 2 shots. I also enjoyed the over 30% movement speed with Fleet Footed, have been reluctant to swap to a new skill. Next improvement for me could be more survivability (currently 27k Hp and still below 500 resist, although they are not bothering me much when the DPS is high enough), or to load a little bit more MF. |
