We'll have articles in the coming days providing all the details on the upcoming patch, but we wanted to give you a sneak peek at some major features currently in development:

Defensive Skill Changes

In our eternal quest to promote build diversity, we'll be making changes to defensive skills across the board while simultaneously reducing incoming damage from mosters. The net result is a survivability buff for playersand an increase in build options as defensive abilities become less "mandatory."

New Event: Infernal Machine

The Infernal Machine is a device that will allow level-60 players to battle "uber" versions of some of Sanctuary's most nefarious bosses. While the rewards for defeating these bosses will be great, some assembly is required.

New System: Monster Power

Similar to the "Players 8" command in Diablo II, the Monster Power system is designed to give players more control over how challenging enemies are in each difficulty.

This and more is coming in Patch 1.0.5! Stay tuned for all the gory details.

@venoom You can check out the stats I had when I did it here - www.d3rmt.com/anuiran/168/24-hours-with-the-real-money-auction-house-diablo-killed-on-inferno/

@Anuiran how did you manage to beat Diablo before any nerf?
it was a lot more difficult and the AH didn't really have that many items back then.
and I guess you had low DPS back then.

@solo, Barbs very well could be having their native 25% damage reduction reduced so I would wait for more information before leaping to the conclusion that they're nerfing monster damage.

After thinking about this a while, my initial excitement has worn off. I did like /players 8 and Uber Diablo functionality in Diablo 2, but this isn't Diablo 2. It would be really nice to have additional original ideas. It just feels like it's becoming more and more like Diablo 2.5 and less like a new game entirely. The player base may just want Diablo 2 again, but that doesn't mean Blizzard should give it to them/us.

I hope they put a substantial different spin on these concepts with Monster Power and Infernal Machine unlike Paragon Levels which is a welcome, but very uninspired concept.

As a tank barb it sucks to hear incoming damage is reducing again but a new players 8 and infernal machine will hopefully keep using a shield viable.

I beat Diablo on Inferno before any nerfs happened and since then I have kinda been disappointed with the difficulty of the game. Infernal Machine and Monster Power are something I am really looking forward too, can't wait to hear more about them.

/players 8 was my favorite command in d2. It made grinding more rewarding and fun (and not as time consuming). I hope they can accomplish that in d3.

Does that mean they're nerfing all the defensive abilities so they're less attractive, but they'll be trying to balance out the overall damage characters take? I seriously doubt those balance changes will work well. Isn't "defensive tank" also a build? I'm absolutely not sold on changing defense. I like the idea of the Infernal Machine, but I'm wary of the execution. I'm curious as to whether Monster Power will result in better drops or more experience or if it's just going to add a few achievements to the game.

I'm still pretty excited for the patch. Sounds like the patch will drop next week or the week after.
