IGN spoke with senior technical game designer Wyatt Cheng and game director Jay Wilson about patch 1.0.5 changes. Here are the highlights:
  • Players can set a monster power level, and the higher they set the level the bigger the bonuses they'll get to magic find, experience and loot drops -- but the harder the game will be.
  • Monster power applies to all difficulties and not just Inferno.
  • At level 60 players can find various objects to put together a device that will allow them to fight more powerful bosses hidden throughout the game
  • Completing the Inferno Machine can apparently net you a legendary ring acquirable only through this event.
  • Jay Wilson hints that part of the fun for the Inferno machine is "figuring it out." Which implies it will be similar to Whimyshire where players will have to figure out themselves.
  • Jay did not give a timeline for when the PvP patch would hit, only noting that they planned for it launch this year.

@ecod I for one welcome the increased difficulty if the rewards are increased too, im certain a lot of other people will be on this bandwagon. I think Plvl8 will be insane for anyone with the highest dps possible, this might even get some WW barbs to change their skills to something less whirly.

Im looking very forward to this patch and new addition, it'll breathe some more life into the game

@Venoom I think the point is that there are elite players that can already pretty much faceroll 4-player games on their own. They very well may be able to faceroll Monster Power Levels 2-4. mpl5 might give them a small pause, mpl6 might put them in some danger and mpl8 puts them in as much danger of dying as Inferno originally did. They can choose which level they want to farm at and more importantly can farm any Act while still having the danger and rewards they desire.

Regarding the Dungeon, that sounds like an expansion pack feature in waiting. It would have to be portals, though, so they could re-introduce all of their game environments so you wouldn't be stuck in a dank dungeon all the time. And better yet, make it Hardcore-esque. You die, you start over from the beginning. Given death meaning! I want them to make this happen even if it was a Torchlight 2 feature.

they should implement some sort of Dungeon with 100 levels.
The deeper you go, the harder the Elites becomes (and of course the better the loot should be)
and every 10 levels or so, you fight a boss that can drop a unique Legendary item that doesn't drop anywhere else.
that would be a nice challenge.

Man I didn't think that my idea would be implemented by them . Well just one ring . Was hoping it was more than just one .

it sounds weird to buff the loot of the other modes.
you can already faceroll them with high MF, 5NV and mediocre cheap gear, which already gives lot of loot and even the occasional (and often useless) Legendary.

It will not be called annihilus...they don't really equate themselves with blizzard north very well, now do they?

@ecocd I am hoping they are as kind of a badge of honor, but who knows. I wonder if the infernal machine has anything to do with the lost ship from act 2?

I'll bet it's the annihilus ring.

Time to dump your Leoric's Signets and pick one up much cheaper after the patch? Seems like cranking Monster Power on Normal Act 2 could go a long way towards getting those to drop.

It will unfortunately be impossible to avoid information about how to get the Infernal Machine parts, but I hope it will be fun, nonetheless. Any guesses on whether the rings will be Bind on Account like the Whimsyshire pieces.
