Back on the DH

So I got P100 on my monk, and moved half of my gear to my DH to try and get some levels on her.

I'm not 100% satisfied with my build, but I think my gear is pretty decent.
Feel free to have a look on my profile.

BUT.... I can't seem to kill the Act2 Keywarden. Was playing MP8.
In general my DH dies a lot more than my monk did, but I'm still in the getting used to the classphase.
But the keywarden is just rediculous.

The slow missile thing means I do no damage from far.
He vortexes me in.... dead.
He reflects projectiles... dead.
heck... he gets into the screen... dead.

What am I missing?

The last time I fought him was before he got fixed, and I could sit off-screen and kill him.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I got some help with this on another thread. I've had success with the following strategy:
-if he's shooting his mortars, run around him outside of the missile dampening shield to dodge them
-after he's finished, fire as many EA:BLs directly into the dampening shield as you can until he starts spinning or mortaring
-once he starts mortaring again, run around him in circles some more to dodge
-rinse and repeat

Good luck!

I think you're first problem is trying to run the Act 2 KW on MP8. The Act 2 KW was specifically designed to hose DHs. Missle dampening field, damage blocking and a ranged attack that's near instant death if it hits. You may not have noticed (took me months), but when he spins, he's deflecting your bolts so they do zero damage which means he's nearly invulverable to your damage a great deal of the time. The best way to kill him was exactly what you found, try to get him stuck on something and fire from a distance.

The other options require specific builds (which doesn't work well with NV, ofc). Sentries aren't affected by missilie dampening fields and neither are Caltrops, Spike Trap or Rain of Vengeance. The only success I had against him was 3 Sentries for constant damage (recall they don't crit so they're only taking your damage from Dex and aps), Caltrops to slow him down and constantly laying down Echoing Blast Spike Traps. Just keep all of them up while Vaulting or Smokescreening out of the way until he's dead. At MP8, you're in for a fight, regardless.

My recommendation is not to try to kill him with a DH at all. Otheriwse, I would give Echoing Blast Spike Traps with the Custom Engineering Passive a try.

@Bort: Yeah, Act 2 KW is the hardest of them all for DHs. I always kill him by getting him stuck on some stairs near the Path to Dalghur Oasis waypoint. Basically, from that waypoint, if you hug your way on the lefthand side, you will come to that one spot where there is the possibility of an underground cellar spawning (if it spawns, there will be a merchant down below, & sometimes you'll get lucky & he'll be the guy that sells the potions for half price...!). If you lead the KW back from the north, he can't go up the stairs & will get stuck there. From the spot where the cellar would spawn, move your DH a little bit south of that, & then you can nail him 100% of the time, usually w/o any return fire. I do this on MP8 all the time. :-)

Good luck! If you have problems understanding the positioning, let me know, & I'll see if I can do some screenshots the next time I'm running Act 2 kw.

Thanks for all the replies.

I think my main problem was that I wasn't used to my DH at all. I had been playing the monk exclusively for months. After sorting out my build and getting used to it I can now kill him on MP8, but it is still a pain, and involves a lot of running.

@eastdragon42 I will try method. Can't visualize it at the moment, but I'm at work. Will load the game, and look at the area, guess it will all make sense then. :)

(edit) @echocd hehe. Just had a look at your profile to check your DH out. He seems to have the same name as my wizard.... dresden is a wizard after all. :P Also, love your Pratchet references.

Cool. Will try this out.

This actually reminds me of a trick way back when in Diablo 1 to kill the butcher early on where you lead him onto the "down" steps to the next level.

Hope it works! Interesting, I honestly don't remember any tricks for killing boss monsters from D1.... ;-)
