question to Glass Cannons

To those of you who have stacked on DPS/Crit Chance/Crit Damage but have low Resistance/Armor:
how do you survive?

I know the aim is to kill in one shot or two before getting killed, but it takes more than one shot for Elites in Inferno, and many mobs have range attacks that could one shot you when you have low Armor/Resistance.

So how exactly do you manage to survive?

Well, I wouldn't consider myself glass cannon or anything, since my resists are decent, but my dps is low enough that I feel like it's basically the same. The trick is to keep enemies at a good distance from you, using snares like caltrops, usually you want the enemy to be just offscreen or barely onscreen in order to allow for proper course correction if necessary. Dodging ranged attacks really isn't that hard as long as you follow those rules.

My gear has only started getting to the point where I'm able to do damage and survive a few hits. Prior to that, it's just a lot of running. A LOT of running. I'm not sure what most DH use, but I was running Evasive Fire as my hatred generator and Spike Trap as my main damage skill with Smokescreen and Vault for running, running, running and 56 Discipline in my bulb. Now that I can take a hit or two, I'm trying out Hungering Arrow.

My favorite trick is kiting in a circle around a large obstacle which allows me to double up my Spike Traps on the ground (550% damage) and confounds Vortexers since I'm already around the corner half the time.

thanks for the feedback and the build ideas, guys.

I am a sucker for MF, and would love to have very high DPS while being able to tank.
very expensive taste :D

given that my funds are low, I have to compromise, and I decided to compromise on resistance/armor while slowly increasing my DPS to survive Act II.

I got only 3k armor and 100 AR and i finished the game solo, the thing wich makes me survive is the discipline from my chest and quiver, that is all you need and learn to kite well and spend you discipline well,i am almost full glass cannon, low armor low AR and only 40k hp,i can only take 1-2 hits wich is enought for me.

I have 140k dps with ss 30k hp 3k+armor and 250ar still taking 2-3 hits from farming act 3 so..

Kite.

Caltrops torturous ground, Gloom, Smokescreen, Preparation.
Environment eg. cave's portal for invulnerable, stairs for those underground digging dune threshers etc

Kite.

After nether tentacles got nerfed, i switched over to high res/armor gear and currently am at 65k/100k dps with 400res, 30khp. I think the glass canon is good, but res/armor is alot better imo!

I do nothing but kite. Lots of circular movements. Once ToC gets nerfed I'll have to figure out another way to get more damage done on the run, but for now it's running in conjunction with ToC. When I roll in a party with friends I sit back with the Wizard in the group while the Monk/Barb go up and tank. The party option is a bit more favorable because I have to pay less attention.

My dh has about 72k dps (no ss), 30k life, 3300 armor and 300 ar. I am definitely having considerably more fun with him now that I don't die in one hit to everything. It's also much more efficient not dying all the time and having to run back to where you were only to get one-shotted again. So frustrating!

I used to have under 100 res in act 3 and I survived solely off of discipline. The fireball ranged attacks would kill me in one hit. The spear throwers, skeleton archers, and razorback guys would kill me in two hits. I would just shoot a bunch of ball lightnings at enemies when they were off the screen and continually kited them until they caught up with me. When there was an incoming attack that I couldn't dodge, I would just smokescreen and continue to run away and kite. I had +8 max disc on my chest and quiver.

But if I geared up another DH I would NOT go glasscannon build. It's so much more fun to play with 300+ all res since you don't die every time you make a slight mistake.

Do as much as you can to not get hit at all. I can farm all of act 3 easily with 90k damage (no sharpshooter) with under 300 all resist. Vault, Shadow Power, and Smoke Screen are your best friends as glass cannon dh.

Shadow power with gloom and vault help a lot with kiting.

with 1.04 we have vault which melts elites, but basically, keep your distance and rain blows
