Trail of Cinders Damage is a bug

Blue Tracker:
n patch 1.0.5, we will be fixing a bug with Trail of Cinders that is causing the rune to deal five times more damage than intended. As a result of this fix, the amount of damage done by Trail of Cinders will be reduced from its current value (1500% weapon damage over 3 seconds) to the value we originally designed for 1.0.4, which is 300% weapon damage over 3 seconds.

I've had some fun playing with it, but don't build your equipment around it. Enjoy it while it lasts!

not sure if that's a bug, or blizzard just wants to nerf it...

@therookie0709 nah, it's a bug. They explained it in more detail later. Trail of Cinders ticks 5 times per second. It's supposed to be 300% damage over 3 seconds, instead it went in as 300% damage per tick over 3 seconds. Whoops. The game knows what's up and lists it correctly as 1500% damage over 3 seconds.

Their explanation is BS. I think they might be exploring the possibility of dropping the Rune entirely in 1.05 and this is the way to give players a heads up. It could also just be that no one wanted to put up a hotfix over Labor Day weekend, which is likewise understandable.

Before the patch, everyone exclusively used Tumble to halve the cost of the skill on the 2nd Vault. Every other rune was (and still is) pointless. They had to jack up the damage to 1500% damage over 3 seconds to make a different rune worthy. It's hard to see anyone using Trail of Cinders for anything under 900% damage over 3 seconds. Making it 300% is exactly the same as removing it from the game entirely.

I can understand that they don't want a Discipline skill to deal damage, but sometimes you have to break your rules to make something special. Here's hoping they only drop it to 900% or give us something genuinely useful in its place.

WOw, I knew TOC was overpowered. Every DH with the legacy nats set was abusing this skill. Anyways, judging from previous patch dates, I don't think 1.05 will be here anytime soon.

Just hope the "Rain of Vengeance" will not be nerf too. Somehow it is useful to clean up a screen of monsters.

300% might as well be 3, so pointless especially over the course of 3 seconds I hope that actually test it and put a reasonable amount of damage on there as I love this skill now!

This is too bad, the OP trail of cinders is quite fun to play with.

Agreed with this. My runs have been super fast with it, but I definitely didn't build my gear towards it and I'm glad!
