I was wondering if anybody knew or had a formula that tells when having dex is less important than crit? or is this completely dependent on the build.

dex is pretty important not only for damage but for dodge. Stacking both would never be a bad thing

There are two variables you want to compare: the damage modifier from dex and the damage modifier from crit. The damage modifier from dex is given by 1+(dex/100). The damage modifier from crit is given by 1+(CC*CD/10000). What we want to do is compare the percent increase in damage from dex vs the percent damage increase from crit.
Let x = increase in dex CF = crit factor (this is simply the product of your crit chance percent and your crit damage) y = increase in CF So the percent increase in damage from dex is given by x/(100+dex) and the percent increase in damage from CF is given by y/(10000+CF). The "breaking point" is when these two values are equal. It is easiest to use a constant for one and then figure out what the other one would need to be to give equivalent increase. Let's use some hypothetical values. Dex = 1400 CF = 20% CC and 200% CD = 4000 How much CF increase do I need to break even with 100 dex increase? (100/1500)*(10000+4000) = 933.3 So in this situation, 100 dex is equal to about 933 CF. You could get this in a variety of ways, like 5% more CC and 186% more CD. Clearly, this is much more difficult than increasing your dex from 1400 to 1500; it would be much more sensible to go for more dex. But what if your dex is 1800? (100/1900)*(10000+4000) = 736.8 So now, 100 dex is only worth about 735 CF. Dex would not only be worth less compared to CC and CD, but it would probably be harder to increase because most of your gear already has fairly good numbers on them. It's important to note that these modifiers are independent of damage or attack speed. There are really four modifiers that are all multiplied together to get your actual damage: (damage from weapons/items)(attack speed + item bonuses)(primary modifier)(crit modifier). They all have equal weight. There are calculators online where someone has inputted these equations into a program, which will automatically tell you how much your dex is worth compared to crit. I recommend using one of those for full benefit. Hope this helps! |

Well i guess Metta put it in a nutshell there. Personally i stack Crit Chance over Dex but keep in mind if you are using "seize the initiative" you don't want to sacrifice too much dex since 1dex = 1 armor.
I think if you are going for a DPS build, 1900-2000 dex is sufficient with at least 30% crit chance (Use the Enchantress follower for some more armor & crit buff) |

I have found that stacking a ton of dex can actually make up for a lack of Crit dmg.
Ive been playing with the new Shenlongs set that gives a whole lot of dex (about 200 per fist +130 set bonus) and innas set (helm + belt..set bonus 130 dex) ..to reach about 2400 dex. While one of the Shenlongs fist has 86 crit damage, my overall is only 136. Quite low compared to other numbers ive seen. This is combined with about 30 crit chance and an attack speed around 2.2 . My unbuffed dps is near 60k with the enchantress (around 55k without i think). However, I have noticed that I am able to consistently deal more damage this way. By relying on dex as opposed to crit chance and damage, all of my attacks hit for much more rather than hitting a high amount only 30% of the time. If I am ever able to afford a Shenlongs Relentless Assault fist with a socket (HA!.. so expensive :( ..) My dps would go through the roof with an added emerald. But as it stands, I melt everything in the game quite easily. |

If you wonder what stats will do the most dps for you, you can take a look at that dps calculator, you can import your stats from the profile page, awesome tool, not only for monks
