Monk OP?

So is the monk over powered? I mean I remember my WD after I hit 60 and I struggled in inferno. In fact still do. My Monk on the other hand I have walked thru Act 1 and now Act 2 I can still destroy elite mobs solo with 2 others in the game. Thoughts?

Any class can be overpowered if you gear them correct, possibly with WD being an exception.

Barbs have Whirlwind Build which gives them almost infinite life
Wizards have the CM build which is almost infinite life too, to a degree

Those are just some examples, no class is seriously overpowered, it all comes down to how you gear them

I agree with @gnawol. I see Diablo as essentially a math game where your gear must be able to exceed equations for damage and survival. While true, skills/runes play a role, those skills/runes would be nothing without crit chance, crit damage, attack speed, and base INT/STR/DEX/VIT found on gear.

Have you played them during different patches? For one thing, WDs got some huge buffs in 1.0.4 (and a nerf to VQ), while the monk didn't see nearly as many changes. Also, the difficulty of inferno was nerfed in both 1.0.3 and 1.0.4, especially pertaining to monster health in co-op games in 1.0.4.

If you haven't tried the WD in 1.0.4, I'd highly recommend giving it another shot if you liked the WD skills at all (it practically feels like a new class, being able to use dogs that rarely ever die).

And it really depends on what you mean by overpowered. If you look at the top 1000 paragon level characters, the more common ones are: Barb, DH, WZ, Monk, WD. I don't think any popular build can compete with the farming capability of a WW barb, but it's always possible that a better build hasn't been discovered yet.

Seeing that there is only 1 monk in the top 20 paragorn ranks, I would say no, also considering the prices of monk upgrades, also no.

Where do you see this list of top paragon ranks?

Anyways, by now even WD can be very overpowered/easy to use. My friend who had stopped playing for a month logged in recently to test the new WD. After buying some cheap gear he was able to farm ACT 3 with a pets/thorn build (previously he was only running ACT1).

WW barbs make sense to me. Supremely powerful DHs make sense to me. I can't speak for WD/Wiz, but I think the problem is monks still have to hit stuff to generate cyclones. So we are constantly stopping to hit. Even if you only care about legendaries/set items, you still have to pause to hit to generate cyclones. WW barbs/DHs can just keep running n' gunning.

Every class can be strong and seem overpowered with extremely good gear. With that being said, I feel as though the Monk is definitely not overpowered. If you want to feel overpowered, perhaps you should try a 5 million budget whirlwind Barbarian.

I'm pretty much in agreement with everyone here. Gear makes the class overpowered, not the class itself.

Agree. WW barb are op with the right gear... Same goes for throw build barb. Everything can be overpower with 200mil gear.

In my opinion, it's not that the monk is overpowered but rather it is most balanced in skills and stats (As a monk is supposed to portray.)

You only done act 1 and 2 and jumped to the conclusion that monk is op? Lmao try act 3 and 4 with a monk, then build a barb with 4m gold...youll see the difference. The ww barb on a low budget can go through a run 10x faster than you with the same budget.

Monks can be powerful. Especially due to the fact they have so many hidden dps modifiers. OP? I wouldn't think so. In terms of farming, barbs blast every class out of the water with their WW build. However, I do believe monks will be very viable in pvp

Monk can be op, but at a cost, they have no build diversity, you can only run one build or you can't even get past act 1 inferno...

I wouldn't say there's only one build. There's a good defensive skill set used just to get by. Once better gear is acquired, then a farming set is used, which is very fun if you're trying to get something like Leoric's Signet because monsters die just getting close to you. The monk is very versatile, but not OP, imo.
