hi guys. a friend of mine is gearing a wiz for act 1 inferno (and beyond) and i have no clue what to suggest. do you have any tips for a newbie wiz? :)

1) All resist. Stack up on it. My current all resist for gold farming A1 is unbuffed 522. So thats what you need at least to farm "naked".
2)Crit chance. At least 30% for A1. If he's tanking like me, then 35% to 40% will do if he's quick on the fingers and has enough damage and resists. 3) Armor. 6000 unbuffed if tanking. 4) Damage. I passed D3 prior to 1.0.4 with only 15k damage using a CM/WW/EB build. Now that items are more inexpensive and dropping like spring rain in A3, I've managed to bring my damage over 60k (without glass cannon or other buffs) and things pretty much melt like a 12 year old staring at Bieber. Damage is last in my opinion for tank builds. If he's more the kiting type, just put damage higher on the list. |

I agree with the above poster that defense is more important than damage per second when trying to beat the game, so focus on life on hit (not life steal, because of the low dps this will be insignificant), life regeneration, and defense. This way you can beat the game.
When he decides he wants to start actually farming and going for speed, it will be time to start trying to finding a happy medium between defense and damage output (can't usually have both without some serious cash and/or gold). |

All resists, Crit chance, Crit damage, Intelligence (for damage) and maybe vitality, if you find you need it, but with more armour and resists you shouldn't need very much vitality
