With the upcoming defense changes in 1.05, where do you think it would be wise to invest your gold now?
With skills for the wiz being nerfed, I assume that more wizards will now go after pieces with int, vit, and all res and the like. What are your opinions? |
Pre 1.05- Where to invest?

Edit: as gnawol points out below, this is probably just routine maintenance. Not a patch dropping. Oh well.
For anyone that doesn't obsessively scour the internet for Diablo news, the patch will drop Tuesday, Sept 18. I don't think there's been anything revealed that will dramatically shift the market other than a few days where players will come back to try new goodies. In that sense, we might see a bump in mats, gems and $/gold simply due to more demand. Unless they reveal a bunch of new recipes, a super-nerf (a la attack speed) or new Gem buffs*, I think the impact of Patch 1.05 will be minimal for the vast majority of players The one large shift I could see is the uber gear market increasing. With Monster Power still under wraps we don't know how it's going to work, but if it really does increase the challenge of the game, we're going to see the near-uber players look for truly uber gear. Right now, you don't need uber gear to farm efficiently. It has to be very, very, good gear, but not every barb needs an Immortal King set. In 1.05 world, though, if those one or two extra set pieces allow them to make the jump from "Monster Power Level Alpha Prime Minor" to "Monster Power Level Beta Secondary Major", they'll be on the AH and trading boards looking for it. Imortal King's Chest is already pricey, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it increase in value even further once the Monster Power preview goes up on Monday. The biggest wildcard, in my opinion, is if Infernal Machine in any way requires Fiery Brimstones. I know I'm going to gamble on buying a handful. There isn't much more than a 15-20% downside risk (Blizzard sell fees), but a 100-300% upside. * I suspect Blizzard is Holding the +All Resist gem functionality for the expansion (helloooo Diamonds), but it would be a pretty good replacement for the +Vit skill on Amethysts right now. |

Armor and all resist pieces in general and as usual. Additional lightning damage pieces for wiz as they're buffing storm armor. You'll likely see more shocknado-centric builds if they're leaving the storm chaser rune untouched.

@ecocd I'd be surprised if the patch lands that soon after 1.04. It would be marvelous if it did but i'm guessing the Maintenance might have something to do with the WoW Expansion coming out on the 25th

I'd invest your gold in gold man, Gold is worth a lot and 1.5 is going to make the legendaries drop eeven more. Keep the mulaah

I'd honestly be surprised to see the gear situation/preferences change very much with 1.05. Everyone will still be looking for the same stats and high roll legendaries. Then again, gold prices are probably going to keep dropping as well.
1.0.5 is nerfing wizards? Doesn't sound like it. Some defensive skills are being nerfed, but monster damage is being lowered to compensate. Storm armor and ice armor are getting buffs. |

Well, offensive gear obviously will become more popular

As a monk with the nerf to StI incoming (100% dex to armor down to 50%) I would think most DW monks might find the +armor stat much more attractive. Stack enough of this stat and drop StI for something better.

@gnawol I forgot the maintenance could be shared across their games. That's probably it. I still can hope the patch might be coming next Tuesday, though. In theory, they wouldn't want to roll out the Diablo patch while they're dealing with the WoW expansion issues so that would put Patch 1.05 on October 2nd at the earliest? They posted the Crowd Control Dev Journal last week and they posted the Defensive changes journal this week along with class skill previews. Then they'll post about Infernal Machine next week and Monster Power October 1? That's a pretty killer real slow roll for their players. Better than getting no information at all, I guess.

I would expect that def gear will get cheaper and offensive high main stat gear might get more expensive. ofc not very many ppl remain so i doubt the change in price will be massive

I really hope there is some kind of crafting buff, especially legendaries. I speculated a lot on Fiery Brimstones and got burnt.
Pun intended. |

I think investing in a trifecta piece with no defense is going to be yhe quickest way to turn a high % profit.
