Buying Set Item Plan for sales purposes

Hi Guys! The market is currently FLOODED with legendaries. Im having a hard time selling rare items now a days because everyone aims for legendaries and set items. Even with Blizzard introducing so many CRAP legendaries, that end up in the market, only really good legendaries sell.

So I've slowly come to realize that Set items are what people are after, including myself. The few items I've sold for 40-70 mil have generally been Set items.

So here's my question! You guys think there's a profit buying the plans for Hallowed Defender and creating them to be sold? (plan cost around 35 mil). Way back I tried creating rares for exactly same purpose, but too much money spent and too small chances of rolling any good stats, so I gave up.

Set items though have fixed set number affixes, so I'm thinking the chances of creating something decent and selling it for a lot, might make the money spent on buying the plan and costs of creating, worth while?

Any thoughts?

My apologies if this has been brought up before in these forums. The Search function is currently unavailable it seems.

Kind regards

G.

The set items that are worth a lot are the ones you can't craft (Inna's, Natalya's, Zuni's, IK's, Tal' Rasha's, etc). I can't think of a single craftable set item worth anything unless it rolls near perfect stats (sage's, hallowed hand). Even then, there usually isn't much of an advantage to use these because the set bonus stinks and it's going to take up the slot of something actually legitimate. So it ends up being worth the same as any rare, which is going to be a lot less.

I think it's POSSIBLE to make some gold off of crafting, but I think the risk is pretty high and the potential is pretty much capped. It's like my dad says: if was that easy to make money, everyone would be doing it.

Yes, I'm definitely going for set items myself. :-)

However, if you're going to buy a plan, I probably wouldn't recommend the Hallowed Defender one: the set bonus is for only two items, a weapon & a shield, and if the weapon's damage is crap, it's definitely a bust regardless of the stats, and if the shield's block rate isn't near max, that's probably a bust as well regardless of the stats. Also, the rage seems to be dual-wielding anyways--seems like there are tons of really good shields being sold at vendor prices simply because no one wants to use a shield (or maybe off-hands, such as DH quivers, provide better bonuses compared to what a shield can provide...? Unsure..).

That's why even for crafting regular rare magical items with five or six random properties, most people on the forums recommended steering away from plans for weapons, because the probability of getting a low DPS one & totally wasting your time & efforts was way too high.
