I just lost another char to DC again. So long story here to vent in a way...

I was playing my DH after getting to Act1 inferno. Everything was nice and easy and I got to Leoric's Manor. Suddenly I disconnected right before opening the inner doors to the room with Magdha and her cultists . I did not die here, probably because there were no mobs around.

After a few seconds, I checked my internet. It reconnected after a bit and so I thought little of it. Logged back in to see my ping all good and normal. I was spawned outside the manor so I dealt with two elite packs outside. Walked into the manor and saw those berserkers and cultists and attempted to fire an arrow at them...but no projectiles come out. Oh [filtered]...now I'm scared. I get disconnected and go through the login screen again. I see a DH but it doesn't have gear on...Oh damn it's my SC one. Clicked on character select and confirmed that my HC Dh is dead.

That makes 4 chars dead to DC/lag and 4 chars with legit HC deaths. Lol, maybe I should've took the first DC as a premonition not to play. I actually had some high hopes for this last character, but this DC is just such a blow to my spirit. Time to take a little break from HC...

I have some questions about pausing solo game in Hardcore. When I pause it, will other people be able to join my game? What happen if the timer run out (I think it is 30 minute pause) and I am not back into the game. Will it cause death if my toon was engaging in fights?

@douvinsky I believe if you have your game open to public then yes, people can join while you hit ESC. I don't think the game is even paused at this point (?). Need to confirm this, but when I solo I don't have it open to public so not sure. I have read about people dying from the idle DC, so don't pause with mobs nearby. If possible, definitely port back to town first.

I think if you pause the game and leave it long enough where it boots you out of the game you don't lose your character. I believe I've done that once and all I can be certain of is that I wasn't pissed off that I lost my character at the time. But I haven't tried it to be certain, because well, I don't want to risk it haha.

I nearly lost my lvl22 DH last night due to DC. I saw that the connection wasn't stable but I decided to go ahead. After she finished clearing some mobs at BCM, I was disconnected. I thought I will sure lose her, but I guess during DC there will be something like 10 seconds before the game send your character back to the last checkpoint? Thence if there are no mobs respawn there it should be safe...

I sporadically get these ENORMOUS spikes of lag. The game nearly freezes (like <1 FPS) and sometimes it can last for up to a minute. If I pause the game, minimize it, and come back to it in a few minutes, it usually reverts back to normal. I think it usually happens when I start up the game, but it seems to also happen randomly. I don't know what it is (my computer is fine, 5 GB ram, wired cable connection, no malware, etc). I've probably had maybe, 20 deaths total because of it, but all SC. I was planning to level up my DH to 60 in HC (level 50 something atm), but that shit SCARES me.

If there were no mobs around you when you DC'ed, that's a pretty good guarantee there will be no deaths. I mean, I don't ever see mobs respawn, just ones that take a long time to come out (like the ghouls).

@Metta Haha, that's some dangerous stuff. I get lag spikes like that too, but most of the time it's during peak hours or I know other ppl in my home are using the internet. But then again, I'm using wireless which just pales in comparison to a wired connection.
