Poor Video Performance.

Alright, this is really starting to tick me off. I just bought a Nvidia GTX 660 OC edition to upgrade from my old GTS 250 and I swear my video performance is HORRIBLE compared to my old card. Rakki's crossing is the worst for me, its getting so bad that I'm dropping to probably 2-5 fps and dying because I can't keep up as a CM wiz.

I've heard of this issue across the board, but I'm curious what your guys experiences are? I'm wondering if I should plug my other two monitors back into the GTS 250 instead of my 660 to try and relieve some strain, but honestly they're not doing anything so I can't see why this is an issue. This video card is made to handle a 3 monitor span of 1080p. Note that I've tried two different driver sets so far, but haven't gone back because this is a fairly new card.

What gives?

and FWIW, I dropped all settings down to the absolutely lowest or off. STILL drops to 2-5 fps around desecrators and such.

Are you having problems outside rakkis crossing?

I have an Nvidia GTX 550ti that handles everything I throw at it (high on everything, one monitor only) except for large groups at rakkis crossing. I think this is a blizz issure rather than your video card(s).

I think its because of the inherent issue of using a client to access the game. It could be server side lag or client interpolation/extrapolation. Either way, its not the card.

Well, it does it other places, but the worst is Rakki's. Otherwise it glitches around alot, the game is never smooth, period. Pretty pathetic, I honestly don't think it was this bad with my GTS 250, idk.

Do any of you have your D3 install on a Solid state drive? I've been considering making some room on mine to swap it over. Currently D3 is installed on the platter drive, not sure if performance could be better on the SSD.

Oh and FWIW, D3 is only playing on my main monitor, never got the span figured out. My other monitors have a browser and sometimes youtube playing, maybe hulu, thats all.

I'm assuming you updated firmware on your board and video card and also whatever software patches were necessary?

Have you used a program like MSI combustor to test out the card's performance?

you should check the forum threads...there are some threads to address low fps, when you say you tried different drivers, are you trying the latest? or? maybe a dumb statement, but make sure the game is running off the new video card and not onboard? if you have any

i on the other hand have issues with artifacts in "fields" like fields of slaughter, and fields of misery... those are the only places that give me artifacts... its very strange... i'm hoping its not my video card overheating, but it seems strange it would only happen in these 2 areas...

@shniggies Its definitely running on the right card, it shows a load when the games running. Definitely not a full load either, even when its down to 2 fps.

I really really think its just shitty drivers, at least I want to believe thats the case, but these latest drivers were geared at the GTX6 series cards so I don't think its gonna get much better. I think it just comes down to Blizzard is still dumb. I'm amazed that ANY RPG game could ever bog down your computer. Theres just so little going on.

Its likely card compatibility with D3 then...Return and exchange.

You mean D3 right? Laff. Why would I ever take a 250 dollar card back because of idiot game designers who took nearly a decade to release a joke. I've played far better games, I only dedicate time to this one because I was a big fan of the original Diablo games, but since WoW came out, Blizzard is even more of a joke. This card runs flawlessly on everything else. Like I said, two strokes away from quittin. I may be looking for bids on my gear.

Why would you blow that much on a card man? I dont even know why I just blew this much on a card honestly. The quad head feature was a selling point tho.

I just found a fix that I didn't see earlier following your links. Only problem is Gayablo is down for server maintenance.

Here's what I'm running and I have ZERO problems running everything on the highest settings. Granted, for a laptop this thing is a beast, but i have no problem carrying around the extra weight given the power in the machine.

Edit - game is run and all info played/saved on the solid state drive. I love that feature as the system does a full cold boot in less than 30 seconds.

damn @NightCrawler9 .... the body's not even cold and you're asking for the ring .... shame on you.

@briangp, please ignore the crawler - he can be like that

edited to add::

1 last thing .... if you're having problems seeing that zuni ring properly work, I can *test* the ring on my witch doctor .... i can even let you hold, say a Bul Kathos Wedding Band ring for collateral ... heck, i'll even polish the ring to a beautiful shine before I return it to ya ...... lol
