Ruby's possibly not used at all?

Most players have a Ruby in their helm for that extra XP but I'm starting to wonder if I'll be wearing one in 1.07, instead putting a high level amethyst so I can bump up the MP.

MP 1: 25% (up from 10%)
MP 2: 50% (up from 20%)
MP 3: 80% (up from 30%)
MP 4: 120%(up from 45%)
MP 5: 165% (up from 60%)
MP 6: 215% (up from 75%)
MP 7: 275% (up from 95%)
MP 8: 340% (up from 115%)
MP 9: 420% (up from 135%
MP 10: 510% (up from 160%)

From MP4 the XP boost is over what it's possible to get form a Ruby, so if you run MP3 with a Flawless Ruby which gives 29% but if you were able to survive MP4 with an Amethyst instead you'd be gaining 11% more XP. I guess it comes down to your kill speed but 11% is still quite a margin even if you were slower.

I don't think the majority of players will be crafting Marquise gems, so Ruby prices could actually come out *lower* than 1.0.6.

Now please shoot holes in my logic :)

My first thought is people will simpy still try to maximise the XP gain.
So they will go for Ruby plus highest survivable MP.

Xp gain speed is more about how fast you can kill, rather than how good you survive. So having more life won't make higher MP better.

The problem with that is people that have like 40K life or whatever don't really need anymore life for farming experience. My wizard has around that much right now with a ruby, so I don't really see any need for more life when I can instead level up faster. I mean sure, you might come out ahead in experience in the next patch when wearing an amethyst, but 29% is still 29%. I'd still choose 191% experience (MP4 with hellfire, ruby, and hellfire on follower) over 162% but with like 4K more life or whatever when wearing an amethyst.

Maybe the answer is.. it depends.

My char's generally don't have a DPS problem, more survivability. An extra 5K life is still 5K! A few other tankier gear swaps mean I could potentially go up an MP level or two and be on top XP wise.

But if that life meant you were able to go to MP5 which is 45% higher than MP4 ?

Just theorycrafting :)

I've always used an amethyst in the helm for the HP gain... never felt the need to "rush" to higher levels w/ bonus exp. But I'm probably in the minority here...

Will be doing MP1 when this hits, currently doing MP0. It all about how fast the runs are.

I can do MP5, I just choose not to because MP4 is more enjoyable. If I were to go up even further in MPs I would focus on getting more resists than life, but if I could get both I would certainly say yes to that haha.

interesting theory, but as others have stated, i think the exp gain with ruby outweighs the benefits of +life
my 2 cents
