I think people are probably under the impression that, if you don't have enough gold, you can buy enough gold from the RMAH (what is it, 1 USD = 400,000g?) to get what you want. Granted, you could probably pick up said item cheaper through the RMAH than buying the gold then spending said gold on the particular item. Its a really strange system Blizzard has set up for us to use and, personally, I wish blizzard would nix the RMAH. I think it is one of the root causes of severe inflation we see in the Gold AH.
