It's only kind of a spike. While I don't think 12k is sustainable, if you look at its sales history (as this is the home of the Auction House Price Tracker), there has been a lot of volatility in Flawless Square Emerald prices and the Radiant Star Emerald prices tend to follow the same trend.

There is a chance this is related to the first weekend of amulet crafting so a lot of Flawless Square emeralds are leaving the economy entirely which has never happened before. We don't see a similar spike in the others, though, so Emeralds just look like they behave differently, period.
