Please help me increase my DPS

Hi all,
I managed to beat Act I Inferno in Solo, but I can still not farm it efficiently.
I keep dying when I encounter some strong Elites (not all of them, but some nasty ones like unvulnerable minions) and many kill me in one-shot.

This would not be a problem if I had a higher DPS, but my DPS is terrible.
17k without SharpShooter and 37k with.

Here are my weapons:

http://nsa30.casimages.com/img/2012/08/06/120806104727298213.png

Corpse Wing cost 800k and Proven Flight only 90k.

Proven Flight has a low DPS but it's compensated with the high Dexterity and Vitality.

how can I improve my DPS with my low budget?

I have 2Mio currently, can maybe get another 2Mio if I manage to sell some stuff on AH, and I can farm for another 2 if needed.

I can post a screenshot of all my gear, or my stats (without SS) if needed.

any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

thank you all.

@venoom Maybe buy a 2hand bow and a quiver, that SHOULD bring your dps up a bit

These two were on the auction house for 1m each or so, they would increase your dps a bit. I did not check if they were the right price, but they would definitely do the job! Just search for cheapish things like these.

thank you for the advice, that actually would increase my DPS by few thousands :)

it seems like I have to sacrifice some of my 200% MF to stack on Crit Chance.
a 10% increase in Crit Chance would also add few thousands more to my DPS.

EU AH prices seem a bit higher but I know now what to look for.

I agree that wielding a 2h-xbow plus a quiver is the way to go, since with the Archery passive it buffs up your crit dmg significantly =D

thanks.

does anyone think I should give up some of my % MF for better gear guven my tight budget?

solid suggestion, Artishir :)
I borrowed a 2h xbow and a quiver from a friend, that he bought for 1 or 2 Mio (both) and Act I is finally playable without too much pain for me! It improved my DPS quite a lot and my Hatred didn't run out fast anymore (the weapon was slower)

now that I have 5 Mio gold, I can even try to stack more Crit Chance on Armor items.

Venoom I'm looking like this right now http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Fean-2616/hero/10047311, what I would do is make sure you can farm while getting MF, it looks like you've sacked a lot of damage for MF.

Until you can afford the better damage / MF stuff work your way up using lower MF items with good damage.

That's what I did with my WD on there and the DH just seems amazing for farming, notice I also searched for items with GF and MF of about 15% each with damage stats too. Some of the items cost me as little as 30k gold.

thanks Spig.
I notice you have low Maximum Life, can you survive like that without dying every 5mn?
does it take lot of skill?

the truth is that the game is so easy I never had to worry about armor/resistance/life points before Inferno.
whenever I struggled, I simply upgraded my weapons.
but now it's not enough.

did you check my new gear? (link above)
it's a big improvement over dual wealding (80% more dps) but I am a bit more fragile now with less life points.

I'm not sure if you are still looking to improve DPS, but I have a 1,235 DPS 2-H I'm trying to sell and it has 3% life steal which could also be very helpful to you with the right skills.

Hey Venoom,my suggestion is that you should look for ocasions on buying a good crossbow and a good quiver with you 5m budget you should get something good,i got my 1.1k dps bow(95% crit and 10% speed) for only 5 mil bid and i finished the game with it.

Also, you shouldn`t bother stacking both mf and dps gear cause you won`t be able to do that from the start, try making your dps gear first the make a mf gear too cause if you want to make a mf gear with wich you can farm it will cost you at least 100 mils,so let that for later.
I played more than 230 hours and i still have only 77k dps in my mf gear wich is enought only for act 2..so better get that dps gear before stacking mf,my advice.

I am upping this thread.
My gear improved quite a bit after I settled on losing MF.
That and the 1.0.4 nerf made it easy for me to farm Act I and doable to farm Act II.
My weapon was looted, I got lucky there.

my latest gear:
Demon Hunter Gear

my helm is obviously not the best by any means, but it's only there for bonus XP.
I have another one with +80 Dext and +5.5 Crit Chance.
Similar helms with a socket are kinda expensive.

Anyway, any advice would be welcome! :)
I currently have 4.5Mio

Wow, we went in really different directions with our builds. I focused on critical hits and defense so I stacked up attack speed, critical hit damage, discipline, vitality and Resist All relatively skimping on Dexterity to do it. I run about 40% critical hit chance and around 2 aps when Soloing with MF.

My Magic Find gear
Demon Hunter Build

The only self-found pieces on my build are the shoulders and a non-MF amulet with 50% crit damage.

What does your non-MF equipment look like? More Resists and Vitality?

btw, I've committed to going self-found until clvl 60 with all of my characters and it shows with my Barbarian and Witch Doctor. Crafting is so much more important on self-found characters that you salvage pretty much everything except for the very highest value items. I think this is what Blizzard had in mind for what the game was supposed to look like while failing to recognize that most loing-term players spend at least 80% of their time at clvl 60 when crafting is all but worthless.

that is my non-MF equipment :D
it used to be above 200%, now it's only 150%.

I stacked resistance and armor at some point, but found it useless (for my style) except for lowering my repair bills.
I just learned to use the skills properly (damage reduction and invisibility skills, not visible in my link, I still have my Normal mode farming build optimised for movement speed)

I don't want to have a low DPS and tank forever on a class that was not designed to tank.
so I went the DPS route with no regrets.
it actually works and you can survive and even tank a little with the proper skills (damage reduction, etc.)
I'd rather kill Elites in few shots than tank them forever.
(personal preference)

I have 38.50% crit chance with the right helm.
my DPS is fine for Act II but I would like to increase it for Act III.
Nerfing the difficulty also helped me.

self-found is not for me, it's so much faster to level up by using the AH.
the story is very ordinary and I don't enjoy levelling up other characters that much.

my problem now with my DH is that it seems that any small upgrade would cost me millions.

I started building resists only after I tried soloing Act 3. Practically everything 1-hit me which just isn't practical with how much faster monsters seem to be there. I started sacrificing dps for defense and vitality. Reflect Damage is utterly killer on Act 3 compared to previous acts and I usually take around 50k damage before I even have any Champions down to 50% life at which point they have a 50% chance to drop a Health Globe. Utterly Brutal. Now I can survive 2 hits in most cases and deal with Reflect Damage Elites mostly.

I'm only now reaching the level of dps I had when I was running Act 2 with my defensive gear and I'm right on the cusp of hunting in Act 3, albeit with minimal MF. I've co-oped Act 3 with a friend that runs Monk tank and the number of ilvl 63 drops is a revelation so I don't mind relying on NV to pop out those guaranteed rares from Elites and Paragon to give a small boost to the possible extra rares they carry. Definitely fewer rares, but the quality is so much more satisfying.

Check out my profile. I think that most people think it's really good to have a lot of dex and go with the glass cannon playstyle, but how are you suppose to deal damage if you are died? Although damage is important, vit and resistances are equally important.
Even though it is really tempting to just get gear with additional damage, always keep up with your survivability. Unless you can one shot any mob in the game, don't go with the glasscannon build without any survivability unless you wanna die time to time.

@therookie0709 1 question, how many hits can you take from say writhing deceiver on your current build? (40+k dps with ss / 3.9k armour / 60k hp) and whats your AR

Am I just being stupid stacking Resists and Armor? I found that I was getting killed by the winged guys that spit fireballs in Act 3 so I've been building my defense for weeks to the point where I can take 2 hits from most Act 3 monsters now and have +27 Max Discipline. Like any good dual-wielder, I rely on critical hits (with skills: +36.5% / +329% ) and aps (2.15 aps) to do essentially all of my damage and hence my low Dex.

Even with 36.6k life, Reflect Damage in Act 3 just destroys me right now. How does everyone else deal with Reflects damage affix? Do I have to change my play style to include Shadow Power Gloom? That seems pretty obnoxious of Blizz.

My friends and I were having problems with Reflects Damage too. We got lucky and found a good bow with 400+ Life on Hit which helped quite a bit (even though the monsters are still pretty nasty).

@Detski are you playing on Act 3? It seems like they jack up the Reflect Damage % on Act 3. It could also just be that there are more HP on Act 3. It sounds like you don't get damage reflected if you have Smokescreen up so I think I'll have to start playing around Smokescreen + Spike Trap + Impale running all at the same time.

Rant alert!

I'm occasionally doing over 200k damage if I can nail all three Spike traps at once and crit on 2 of them (which happen about 1 in 7 times). If that reflects even just 1% that's 2000 damage coming back to me. I think it's probably closer to 2-3% which means I can blasted for 6k damage simply for attacking them. Even a bow with 900 LOH isn't going to help me there.

If I could have 1 thing in patch 1.05 it would be to have Reflect Damage be unable to do the last point of damage exactly like poison damage in Diablo 2. The enemy has to do some to damage me to kill me. I've killed myself (or had my Follower kill me) half a dozen times this week on Act 3 without ever getting hit. In what universe is that good game design?
