I thought I would share a disturbing finding. I think Blizzard messed up dual wielding DH skills. I tested all of the damage-dealing skills, including the Discipline ones, and the only skills that solely use main hand weapon damage are Companion, Fan of Knives and Rain of Vengeance. All the rest of the skills either alternate the weapon used (e.g., Hungering Arrow, Chakram) or use the next weapon's damage. If you fire your main weapon then set a Spike Trap, the Spike Trap damage uses your offhand weapon's damage. Even Sentry uses next weapon's damage which makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
I was trying dual wielding a high DPS 1H Xbow with a cold damage 1H Xbow to take advantage of the 30% chill effect, stacked critical damage and split LOH procs. I figured most skills would use main hand weapon damage, because that's what makes sense intuitively and from a flavor perspective. It just doesn't make sense for a Sentry, Trail of Cinders, Chakram, etc to depend upon which Bow I fired last. They do. This destroys whatever weak incentive there was to dual wield, in the first place. It's next to impossible to "time" when I want to lay down my Spike Trap while kiting elites and I can't believe the developers intended it to work that way. Here's hoping they "fix" most of the skills in 1.05. |
