I don't think you can reach 300 mf without using a legendary weapon. You can get up to 256 without a mf gem in your helm according to:

I think you're going to need Paragon to reach 300. It's difficult to find a well-balanced piece with max or near-max MF. If you do find one, it's probably going to be expensive. So you may end up relying on less-than-max MF pieces, and in turn relying more on Paragon for the rest (to hit the cap).
