Has anyone had any luck selling stuff on the RMAH? I'm specifically referring to sales that have happened in the past 2 weeks or so (RMAH was completely different say, a month ago). I've sold high end stuff (which is where most of my profit comes from), but has anyone managed to sell anything, say, under $20? I'm also really intrigued to hear if anyone has sold rares (non-legendary/set items).
At $.64/million, the absolute minimum an item should be worth is about 2M. If we take into account the difference between the transaction fees (15% vs $1), then the breakeven point is at about $7 ($1 reduces profit by 14.3%). This means an item has to be worth nearly 11M in gold to have a chance at RMAH profit. I don't really subscribe to the view that there are people who buy in USD just to avoid the "hassle" of buying on the GAH. It takes one click to convert dollars to gold and the selection of items on the GAH is exponentially higher. I think there are individual cases of people making a nice profit because of price discrepancies, but I consider these to be outliers. I would love to hear about someone proving me wrong, though, because frankly, I can't sell anything on RMAH XD. |
What sells on the RMAH?

Anything @gnawol finds seems to sell...seemingly. You should ask him about his recent luck.
P.S. I hate him and his ridiculous luck. ;-) |

@Baldy
I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean his drops are good and he's just selling good items? Or that he's been able to sell marginal items on RMAH? The first one makes sense; no real news to me. The second one I am more curious about. |

I have tried selling a number of rares over the past couple weeks with zero sales in the $1.50 - $2.50 range. Many of these items have gone on to sell for 1.5 - 2 million once moved to the GAH.
I think for these lower end but still sellable items the difference in fees creates a bit of a gap between what sellers feel they need to charge to make the RMAH transaction worthwhile vs. what buyers feel like they can get value-wise on the GAH. |

@Baldy is just jealous :-P
Naturally anything that is a set item, will sell without any issue. In Terms of Legendaries(also known as oranges), it really has to be a decent roll for it to even be looked at. As you say, anything that you could sell for 11m Gold you might be able to sell for $ but it's not always the case i've found. I've experimented with many things in terms of selling, some things that should sell won't and some that shouldnt' sell, just will. Example: I found a wizard helm with 200 int/60vit/9Arcane on crit + socket. All wizards know this is complete trash unless it would have critical hit chance, yet I put it up for $12 and it sold. I think the mentality of people on RMAH is far different than that on the GAH. Players are less informed and assume if the price is "reasonable" or "high" it must be "good". Similar to prices of Apple Products, Ferrari's, BMW's, etc. (When i started playing Diablo again i forgot all about crit chance, crit damage so i was searching for items with High INT+Vit+Allres[Gloves, Bracers, Helms, etc], i think many beginners would do that too, not knowing that crit chance, crit damage is important) I've sold some rares/yellow's with primitive stats for the $4 Mark, i wish i could link them but since my account is currently disabled I can't do so. If i had to recall, it was a pair of bracers with 5 Crit chance, 100Int/45allres/60vit. Another was a belt with 180str/98vit/60allres which went for $5.25 Set Items seem to fly off the shelf like hot cakes if you undercut the next person by $1-$2, the Inna's Chest as well as IK Helm i found sold within 25minutes of listing the items. Items that are just subpar and can be found on the gold auction house for 10-15mil generally don't sell and I wouldn't bother with [listing them on RMAH] it either unless you just want to fill your slots temporarily until you find something worthy of selling |

Yeah it's pretty disappointing because I haven't found anything RMAH worthy in a few weeks. I've found maybe 5-6 legendaries and they're all pretty bad (Schaefer's hammer, The Inquisitor, Messerschmidt's Reaver, Andariel's Visage) and I'm pretty sure zero of my rares were RMAH material (only a few were even GAH worthy). I see the WORST stuff on RMAH for ridiculous prices and it kinda makes me laugh, but then I wonder... is there really a market for idiots (excuse me, players) who will buy something for like, $20 more than they could've paid if they just bought gold and bought virtually the same item on GAH?

I do think there are a certain number of idiots out there who dont/wont bother to check the exchange rate between gold and cash before deciding which AH to buy an item from. That said I dont think anyone is going to get rich trying to sell them crap because even if they will overpay for an item they are still looking for the same sets of stats as everyone else. A crap item is a crap item.
On the other hand I have personally sold quite a few crap items at the extreme bottom end of the price range probably $30 - $40 in profit to me $0.50 or so at a time. Most of these were decent but not great rares and crap legendaries that I otherwise would have brimstoned. most of them I never expected to sell, I just throw them up at random when I dont have any decent items to sell. However it has been about 3 weeks since any of these sold and things had slowed down immensely during the couple weeks prior to that. I figure it is most likely that those who are still actively playing and using the AH are past the point of fishing for random small upgrades and are either looking for specific pieces (or stats on a rare) or are looking for items priced low enough they think they can flip them for profit. |
