I aimed to get my attack speed up to 3 aps to take advantage of my Sentries. Recently, I got to wondering how high I could push my unbuffed (screw you frenzy barbs) aps. It turns out, I can get really fast. I had no idea faster attack speed mods exist on all but shoulder armor. Even attack speed boots even exist, Ashera's Tracks tack on 7% attack speed. Not many people are aware, but superior white weapons can push up to a 20% attack speed bonus.
While I don't think I can quite afford to temporarily purchase even a crappy full set of max attack speed gear, I can get pretty close. I think I could push it above 4 aps unbuffed if I drop my entire bankroll. I managed 3.67 with only a few hundred thousand gold last night and it's crazy. I cleared Act 3 MP0 with a white +20% attack speed bow. With just my sentries and me, I was putting out 14-15 arrows / second. Even at only 300 dps on the bow, that did a number on uniques and Azmodan. It was a true sight to behold. I'm thinking about recruiting a few Wizards next weekend to search out a frenzy shrine and then buff my attack speed even further to see just how high the attack speed could actually go. I love playing a DH. |

I'd imagine legacy Zuni boots being really good for a demon hunter.

Instead of WZs you'll want 3 WDs with big bad voodoo, as it apparently stacks for more.

@NightCrawler9 DHs, for the most part, don't have to kite nearly as much in 1.0.5 as they did in t 1.0.4. I don't anyway so the movement speed isn't important. We get that off of the Lacuni's now, anyway. I guess it depends upon how high the Dexterity can go on legacy Zuni boots compared to Asheara's Tracks. I guess I would say that perfect Zuni legacy are going to be better than perfect Asheara's, but the Asheara's are going to be substantially cheaper for moderately good boots.
@sabin Thanks for the advice. I could probably drum up a few clvl 60 WD for a fun time since a lot of people seem to have leveled their alts to 60 before abandoning them for paragon leveling. Just need them to light up a few big bad voodoo for me to spike my aps, not really be geared to the teeth. |

The most dex I see for Asheara's is 111 Dex for 650K, and with Legacy Zuni's the cheapest boots with Dex are 88 for 5 million. The only reason I brought up Zuni boots are I think the 30 less dex on them gets made up by the poison damage and then some possibly. But I really don't know. Asheara's is most likely better better for the price. Dex can go all the way up to 225 on legacy Zuni's but those are a bunch more expensive and just not worth it I think.

If you actually want to try and make the build useful, see if you can get some decent LoH and CC abilities on your gear. Even if sentries don't proc the CC, hungering arrow with 3-4APS should work really well. For solo, fear/knockback would be nice, or for co-op, stun/freeze/chill would be good. I'm also wondering how well bola shot's stun would work on elites with that APS.

@sabin Holy balls the super speed Bola Shot - Thunderball is awesome. I threw on my best current attack speed gear (albeit 11% AS rare 1H Xbow) with the Enchantress to top out at 3.3 aps and went hunting. I couldn't quite stunlock the elites, but on MP0 the Act 3 Key Warden had the opportunity to move only 4 times before I killed him. Each time he moved, he went immediately back into stunlock before he could actually set out an attack. I hardly even dropped my Sentries during the playthrough.
In packs, the Bola shredded everything, because it was exploding 14 yards at 165% weapon damage 3.3 times per second. With uniques, it kept them nearly stunlocked. It was not impressive, however, against elite blue packs, since they seemed to spread themselves out enough to keep from being in the blast radius. Overall, however, I may have found a new favorite skill. It could be pretty great in multiplayer and could probably even make for a passable substitute in ubers for a 2nd permafreeze wizard. 35% chance to stun on explosion with 3 attacks per second means a 73% chance of stunning at least once per second. If you could find a 5% freeze belt and a 2.5% freeze weapon, that kinda, sorta makes it a 42.5% to stun or 81% chance at least once per second. You could also add a 5% Blind Amulet, 5% Stun gloves and 2.5% Dead Man's Legacy to push it over an 85% chance of CC at least once per second. Whee! |

@ecocd Glad to hear the skill works well, I really liked thunderball even with a 2H xbow and little IAS so I figured it'd be nice. The CC from gear has a chance to overlap with the stunlock hits, so I think you're really looking somewhere between 35 and 42% in your example. Does the stun of the bola shot rune only have a chance on the main target, though? I'm assuming the CC% from gear applies to the whole blast radius.
If you want to keep mobs away from you even more, maybe try the spider. I haven't used it since the buff, but now it can tank, still slows, but with an AoE attack like barb's cleave. |
