We constantly have people giving holding contests ect. I figured maybe people would like to have a weekly give away thing you pay to enter in.
What if we hold a site lottery? Something that anyone who wants to can buy a ticket for x gold. I was thinking the prize could be the ticket sales more people that enter the more money to be one. Now i have no idea on how this would be set up or if its even possible. I was just sitting around bored and came up with the idea. |

Actually, this could be a brilliant idea. In another thread, @anuiran and others were thinking about getting a voice chat server, and how to finance it.
Maybe take a percentage of the ticket costs (90%) going to the lottery, with 10% going to selling on the RMAH for cash. With enough participants (and enough people buying gold on the RMAH), we might be able to fund the server. 1st place: 50% of pot 2nd place: 25% of pot 3rd place: 15% of pot Vent server: 10% of pot |

I would be interested, and I think Jhonka's idea is pretty cool. If it's going to be a weekly thing, we'd need to find a balance between a low entry cost to make it accessible and a high enough cost to make the prize worthwhile.
Given how trustworthy folks are in this community, I would personally have no issue simply giving my entry fee to the person/people running it in game. The entries and winner can all be managed in a post on the forums. I know @Anuiran was considering a lottery before, but I'm not sure if the idea is still floating around. |

@Sabin @mantice Yeah, we were considering doing a lottery, but we kind of put it on the back burner for a bit, if enough people are interested now we could definitely start one. We could have a few, a low entry fee one and a high entry fee one. For the low one, say the fee is 50k, everyone gives their 50k to Anuiran or me, We put our own gold in, say 1mil. Whoever wins gets the 1mil + all the gold from people entering, one winner, one prize. Edit: we could also do the low entry fee one often, maybe even daily, while the high entry fee one weekly, and an even higher one monthly. say 1mil entry fee 100mil+all gold from entries prize once a month? ;) Similar rules for the high entry fee one, you pay, say 500k to Anuiran or me. We put our own gold in, 10mil or so? Whoever wins gets all of the entry fee gold + the 10mil. You could buy as many Entries as you want of course! Of course we would need plenty of entries for the higher one. Would seem a little silly if only two people entered ;) We could even open a donation type lottery similar to @Jhonka's idea. 250k per entry, except we don't put any gold down, and the winner gets 50% of the pot, the rest goes towards the voice chat server. Keep in mind all the numbers i suggested were merely suggestions, we can adjust accordingly! It's all possible, especially with such an amazing community like yourselves! ;) I'll talk to @Anuiran about it in a bit. |

I didn't even think about buying multiple entries, but I like it. Pretty much solves my concern about being accessible yet rewarding.
I'd participate in any of the possibilities you mentioned. I suppose it would make sense to first gauge demand with either a daily or weekly version, but the big monthly one sounds pretty cool as well. |

Maybe start with weekly ... that gave time for Anuiran (or whoever proxy) to collect gold in game. Since I am in Asia timezone I may want to pass my share to whoever I meet first, to help me pass it into the pot! Maybe a few pots ... from small pots to big pots. You can choose which pot to participate (obviously contribute small for small pots, big for big pots), or you may participate in all of the pots?! |

One basic with a lottery is the chance for nobody to win. Now, I don't think we need to go all powerball and have the odds of winning be 1 in 174 million or so, but I'd love to see something like this:
1M gold per entry. drawing held twice a week - say on wed and again on sun - say 9pm west time zone, midnight eastern. Every entry allows the contestant to pick a number from 000-999. RNG for a winner, or simply put 10 playing cards into a hat ace=1, two=2, etc. until ten, where ten=0. 1st card is drawn out of the hat to reveal the first digit. wash, rinse repeat for the second digit and third digit. Verify if we have a winner or not. If we don't have a winner the pot carries over until the next drawing. When a pot gets hit the d3rmt website then gets a cut of 15% (or what-ever number everybody wants to use) and cashed that out to pay for the newer server. We could also start adding the cash from the give-aways a lot of people are doing into the pot itself if they're ok with it to help build up the pot which will have a lot more players want to play. Overall GREAT IDEA !!! |

I really like @baccarat0809 's idea for selecting a winning number and moving it forward if nobody wins. Although in that case I'd suggest a maximum number of entries per person per week, say up to 5 entries at 1M each. This idea could even be extended one step further that if you match say the last 2 number in the right order (winning number is 524 and you picked 924) you'd get a smaller prize.

I don't like the idea of nobody winning. Going 3-4 weeks with no winner would be depressing. For people that want a bigger prize pool, that would be the point of the monthly version that Artishir mentioned.

I like the more involved lottery. I think if we do one that rolls over the max consecutive games without a winner should be limited to like 4 weeks, after that set it up so that someone will win on the next drawing.
