As there is no way to confirm this, take it with a grain of salt. I do not generally post rumors but half an hour before the server went down I noticed a couple pages of trifecta sage gloves for cheap.
D2JSP Showing influx of high dps crit dam + socket 1 handers Official forums discussing crafting exploit Rumor has it that players found a way to guarantee excellent rolls from crafting items. Now with the combined fact of a urgent server maintenance... maybe there is some truth to it? |
Rumor: Crafting exploit?

There was a YouTube video linked in the D2JSP thread but I can't get to YouTube at work and searching for the videos alphanumeric identifier on my iPhone didn't work. Maybe the video showed the exploit and maybe it was removed already.
@Anuiran I typed the above, hit submit and I was told I needed to be logged in to post. I was logged in, but once I got the message, I was not logged in. So I logged in again and was able to post. This is the second time this has happened to me in like the past 12 minutes. |

The Youtube video is for a Skillet music vid. <shrug>
Edit: Why would anyone do this? Answer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUZx-hZTDWM&playnext=1&list=PLFB678E2981920F70&feature=results_main |

The video was of an emo band, not an exploit so don't waste your data usage. They're not much better over on d2jsp than on b.net forums.
Kinda annoying as I'd nipped home a bit earlier to play with my WD! |

I was searching for these as an offhand a month ago and observed serious swings in supply of conquest swords (lvl 62) with CC, LS, and OS stats- it's not a new phenomenon, but i would say there is very likely an exploit. Also, I've read that there was a similar thing happening in the HC scene too a while back.

I, too heard of these crafting exploits a while ago. There was a thread on official bnet forums about influx of good lvl62 1 handers that all have similar stats and were posted around the same time.

Hmmm, it seems like something is definitely going on, but it's hard to cry "exploit" without any solid evidence. Too many unknown variables that can be broken, twisted, and molded to fit one's argument.
That being said, did anyone ever figure out how the gem duping was done? For RS to be sub 5 million at one point and then suddenly back up to their natural 20M+ price point pretty much shows some sort of exploit was fixed/patched. I'm just curious as to how this is possible. |

Just searched for trifecta dex gloves (dex 100, AS 8, CC 9, CD 30) and I don't really see "a ton". Minimum is 52M. With vit, minimum is 88M. With FR, minimum is 200M. None exist with AR.
Did uber dex 1-handers (dex 100, CD 50, LS, OS) and I'm not really seeing much either. A handful over 1100 DPS, only 1 page over 1000 DPS. If I bump CD to 70, I see none over 1000. Was anyone able to take a look before the servers went down to determine if items were removed from AH? Lastly bracers (dex 100, vit, AR 60, CC 6). Only 2 pages. I scour the AH quite a bit (more time spent doing that than I play) and I don't really see anything I would consider to be unusual. The uber items are still crazy expensive and there are only a few of them. |

i've been reading some forums posts since i read about this rumor... some interesting theories out there
1. maintenance window is to address the server disconnects/inability to login 2. fake exploit news to drive up costs of crafting mats and plans 3. there really is something going on i'm hoping its 1 and 2, and not 3 |

The most common theory as to why gems went down in price so much was because of rollback duping. A person would transfer all or most of their gear to another account and have a friend or themselves log into their account from another location or IP address to make it look like they got hacked. They would then send a ticket saying they got hacked and Blizzard would roll their account back to the pre "hack" status. Not entirely sure on the legitimacy of this way and if it did happen to make the prices drop as much as they did, but it certainly was happening. That's most likely the reason why there's so many Smite Wound maces out there (probably the most famous rare weapon on Diablo 3 right now haha).

That happened rampantly on the Asian servers. Now when they restore an account all equipment and items are set to Bind on Account. If that's what happened here, we can expect the same change in North America. Keep that Authenticator secure!

That makes sense. But how did Blizzard amend this? Clearly gems have returned to their actual values (slightly more on AH than it costs to craft, but that accounts for time). So the glut of duped gems must have been somehow removed, though it seems difficult to trace all of the people doing this. It really seems like a lot of work for minimal gain. Unless there's actually a way to manipulate the RNG or some true exploit, creating multiple accounts and scamming Blizzard is kind of a hassle for not much payout. And if you're John Forbes Nash Jr. running 100 accounts on 101 computers using algorithms to analyze the millions of interactions between each account... I would think your talents could be applied somewhere else not only for the benefit of the real world, but also for better financial compensation. |

Yeah, it does seem pretty dumb to me too, but it's surprising what people will do if they can find out something that will give them an advantage.
I think what Blizzard did was a massive ban to those accounts or something. Not really sure on the details, but that's what I've heard. |

On that D2jsp forum some people actually linked our site for use of the AH tracker, haha. :)

I'm not sure when you checked, but your post on the forums here was after the "urgent" patch and servers had come back online, so possibly the items were removed from AH by then |

When I was in the market for upgrading my weapon on my wizard I noticed the 62 sword thing mentioned. It was kind of odd that there would bee like three 62 sword that where pretty much the same, but a little less stats in one affix and a little more in another. They would be like 1200 dps, crit damage, socket, life steal and IAS. I remember the three of them always being at the very top of the results and thinking it was weird seeing that many weapons that were pretty much exactly the same.

are they still there? |

Not sure. Haven't looked at weapons since I bought my last one. Maybe I'll take a gander at them later tonight.
