Looking at getting the following, would appreciate comments especially the power supply & CPU cooler, dunno if I need more than 430W PSU.
I opted for silent options with good performance. I don't want this PC to sound like an aircraft taking off. I also don't plan to overclock.. but it's easy to say that now :) GFX - Asus GTX 660 DirectCU II Mobo - Asus P8Z77-V CPU - Intel i5 3570K Case - Fractual Design Define R4 PSU - BeQuiet 430W Silent Modular Storage - Samsung 250GB SSD RAM - 2x4BG Corsair DDR3 1600MHz CPU Fan - Gelid Tranquillo Rev2 Quiet Cooler No idea on monitor yet, probably something 27". I've not build a system in probably 8-10 years, so there was a lot to catch up on! |

That looks pretty awesome! Are you going to have a second hard drive or is the 250GB enough for you? I would love a SSD myself... I just can't justify the price and small size yet :(

Go with a larger power source just in case. Nice choice with the SSD. Personally I run a 64 GB SSD for OS and essential games and two 250 GB for music/movies (SSD is not necessary for these).
All in all great choices. Smart to go with the high end i5 than the low end i7. You saved some cash with this. Love the case. Not sure about airflow since its only got 1 fan on it. |

Original thinking was that 250GB will be enough as girlfriend and I use large USB HDD's quite a lot for media as our TV has a USB plug.. but thinking on this I may be able to get a 1TB drive and a smaller SSD for the same price as the large SSD. I'll look into that.
@Khan It should have two fans (unless they've changed it) both 140mm, an exhaust & one in front of the drive bays accessible through the swing door. I'm really excited about the case, read a lot about it & sounds exactly what I was after and one of those things was room for more cooling if needed. Thanks, not much extra $$ to go with a slightly larger PSU. I found out that the PSU recommendation for the GPU is 500 so I'll go for 530 or something like that. |

In that case I've been quite partial to this Rosewill power supply.

Agree with Khan here, you'll want to bump up to a 520 W with that set-up, particularly if you're going to do any overclocking (and you're just throwing away money by going with a 3570k vs. a 3570 if you're not overclocking). If you plan to go CrossFire at some point, bump that up even further (and that's a ton of motherboard if you're not going Crossfire). I love modular PSUs so I approve of that choice. PSUs are rarely the primary cause of noise so I wouldn't really worry about that. The one thing on a new computer you don't want to cheap out on is your PSU. A faulty PSU can fry every other piece of equipment in your entire computer. |

Yeah i agree, didn't look to me like going to 650-750w was a big price jump. if not, might as well future proof in case you want to grab another 660 when they are older news. That and an OC, would easily keep up decently within the next year or so

@ecocd the cost of the i5 K CPU is about £10 more than the non k version, hardly worthwhile *not* getting it :)
Been doing a bunch more PSU research today, pretty sure I'm going to get this Corsair CXM Modular 600W. I may have cheaped out a bit on the mobo but I like ASUS gear, seemed to have good reviews and I'm not planning to crossfire or do any OC'ing as not really interested in next gen FPS gaming. |

How much D3 Gold does £10 buy @ninjax?! Priorities man!
I don't think you cheaped out on the mobo at all. I spent $90 on my new one and while it doesn't support Crossfire, it's plenty good for OC'ing. Only guys trying to figure out how to watercool their PC need more mobo than what you're getting. Corsair makes good PSU's. I know my opinion is the most important thing ever so I'm certain you'll be relieved I approve. |

@ninjax Didn't notice that 2nd fan! You should be good with that Corsair 600W PSU. Very solid products they have.

haha! Don't worry, I'll be able to farm that £10 back on my new rig in no time, specially with my speedy chicken farmer WD =) Almost ready to click the "buy" button, it's a little nerve racking dropping the cash. Just confirming monitor sizes at work today and will talk to the graphics design guys in the office to see if I need to keep an eye out for anything in particular, they are all screen geeks. |

Bought my laptop last June but way overbuilt it when i got it (from xoticpc.com - a little plug for a great company)
• Ivy Bridge Core i7-3820Qm (2.7ghz w/ 8MB cache) Diamond Thermal Compound for heat dissipation • nVidia GeForce GTX 675M (2MB GDDR5 w/ Optimus Technology) Diamond Thermal Compound • 16 GB of DDR3 ~ 1600 Mhz Dual Channel Memory (4 sticks @ 4GB each) • 15.6” Matte Type Monitor (1920x1080) with 95% NTSC Color Gamut • 80GB Intel 310 Series Solid-State Drive as an Operating System Drive • 750 GB 7200RPM hard drive with a 16MB Cache Running windows 7 ultimate with full office. Blazing fast machine, but for shits and giggles I back to xoticpc.com to build a new desktop with all the "best" parts out there now ... prices out to around $18K USD !!!!! Holy crap man. I had no idea a desktop could be that expensive. Granted, thats with like 3 video cards, 3 ssd with 500GB each, massive cooling system and overclocking to around 4.9 GHz, but I had no idea you could pack that much into a desktop now-a-days. I can't tell you the last time I looked at "building" a desktop as everything I get for the business is "off the rack", cheapo's from dell. Damn, I don't think I even paid that much for my server when I bought it 2 years ago - and thats high end enough to run 200 people on it - though we're running about 50 on it now. Love to get more pictures as you start assembling that bad boy. I too love new computer time almost as much as I love new car time. |

I'm seriously thinking about building something like this and start some bitcoin mining.

I love new computer time too!
I'm building my wife a Diablo computer just with the RMAH profits we've made. Here's the build so far: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/N26R I'll probably wind up swapping that video card into my i5-2500k build and giving her my old 6850 Radeon. Should be a nice cheap build, and I'll use an old case and power supply I have lying around. |
