Hi ,
I have been doing solo Act 3 runs for 60 hours and I have only achieved to get 3 legendary items . One fine day , I was bored so I joined the public game and after only 6 hours , I have gotten 5 legendary items . Question . Do you think farming in a party increase your chances to get a legendary item ?. For me . It's a yes . What do you think ? |
Myth or Fact ?

Yes i do think the chances on a party are better... Blizz likes to force us into multplayer gameplay so it is just normal to them.

4 legendary so far, 3 blacksmith plans. 3 of the 4 leg in public games. All 3 of the plans in public games. I've run about 50/50 in public-solo games.
One of the 1.04 patch notes indicated that blizzard *jay wilson* thought it was more "fun" to play in public games than solo ... so I would have thought they would have used that opportunity to make drops in public games better - however, and its a big however, I really, really expected them to say something about that - and they didn't, so while I would think that public are better I certainly could be wrong. |

I wouldn't be completely surprised if there was a slight advantage to drops (similar to the slight advantage in HP scaling). That being said, unless the drop rate was significant (like 2x as high or something), I would still play solo. Why? Because I hate public games. Here are a few things that completely piss me off:
1) People afking. I guess sometimes I can understand a guy left his game open, no one joined, he got bored and went AFK. But what is up with the random AFK as we're progressing? 2) People straying too far from the main route. Why is someone in Caverns of Araneae when we're going to fight Butcher? 3) People seriously undergeared. I understand that you really, really want to beat the game and kill Diablo on Inferno. But you're not helping with 9k dps and 15k HP. 4) People just taking too damn long. I know that level 53 hammer still LOOKS appealing cause it's nice and yellowy, but I'm just gonna throw it out there: do not waste my time picking up those items and going back to town to sell for 52 gold. I'm sure a WW barb feels the same way all the time too. Unless you're really synchronized (which won't happen in a pub), it's just way too inefficient to farm with more people. |

I play solo a lot and don't find too many legendaries; however, when I do play with my friends in a party, we usually find a legendary in 1-2 runs.

Ran party yesterday. It sucked! Very few rares above ilvl 61.

Yeah . I mean I'm a WW barb and WW barbs tend to be the front runners leaving the rest chasing ya so I have to adjust and kind of wait up for them . It has its pros and cons in a party but just for the legendary drops , I have to be patient . |

It is true . I was in envy with my fren next to me playing in a party while I solo . He just announce a legendary drop in an hourly basis . I was like WTF ?. Manticore Ice Climbers I only got one stupid glove . Either he's real lucky or I'm real unlucky . |

And this is why I don't like entering public games with people, because I really need that 800-1000 Gold from vending rares. I didn't get into the game in the first 2-3 weeks so I never built up a horde of early Gold like so many early players appear to have done. I also don't have hours upon hours each day to make five Act 3 runs per night. I've been puttering along building up my Gold stash to upgrade my items and have only just yesterday reached 10,000,000 Gold for the first time and I managed to kill Inferno Diablo during 1.03 and now I'm plvl 15. Everyone these days is lucky to get 50k for ilvl 61+ items on the Auction House with even elite gear often going for no more than 250k. The only way for the vast, vast majority of players to upgrade gear is now Gold farming and that means picking up the crappy ilvl 53 rares, taking 3 seconds to ID them and Vend them. If you want to see how the rest of us live, drop your Echoing Fury, Atk Sp/CC/Dex/Vit ring, replace the Perfect Star Emeralds with Star Emeralds and remove all non-plvl MF/GF equipment. Try to upgrade even one piece of the rest of your armor over the course of 10 days. I think you'll gain a new appreciation for the challenges the unwashed masses face and why we all pick up and vend those crappy ilvl 53 rares. Also, pressing the Ctrl key to ID items on the ground hurts my wrist. |

Well, to each his own. I personally feel that since EE prices are way down, paragon exp gives you bonus gf, and they've massively buffed drop rates, that picking up items below a certain level makes no sense mathematically to me. Even if I could only farm Act 1 with no MF, I still wouldn't pick a level 53 item up because I would feel that the time would be better spent just redoing the run or maybe just killing whites for gold. It's not a question of gear; it's a question of principle. Additionally, since sub 60 gear can't salvage into EE, an item like that is something I have NEVER picked up. I used to do the whole thing; picking up blues to salvage into EE for gold. We didn't all start out rich. Also, when I do play in public games, I carry the load and I'm helping people get stuff/kill bosses. I feel like the least people can do when I'm there is to be somewhat efficient. Overall, that has not been the case and that's why I haven't done pubs in awhile. |

i think it is unrelated, i myself like going in public groups because it makes MF swapping significantly easier than it is by myself, although that probably annoys people.

Look! More hidden footprints!
But in all seriousness, I don't think legendary rates are boosted in parties. Not intentionally, anyway |

It's just RNG and confirmation bias, really. I farm with my friends the majority of the times, but legendaries are usually found while soloing.

I find that I get more legendary items when in a full group. I haven't tried public games when my friends aren't online. Might have to give it a shot.

Really unless the sample size you have is much much bigger, then no one is really gonna be able to tell. That said I wouldn't be very surprised if it were true.

I dont think there is any proof that farming in a party increases the chances of finding any sort of item. That may change in the next patch as they make it possible to increase player difficulty which may reward for higher difficulties etc.

There is no way to say for certain, but I highly doubt it is a higher chance in public parties.

As you level up your Paragon lvls, you will notice an increased drop rate. Just as with D2, magic find does make a huge difference in this game.

I sure hope it's the case.

I doubt it.

If you're looking for legendaries/min, there is nothing more efficient than running solo, unless you're severely undergeared. By joining a public game, you have to do more dps in order to get the same kill rate.
That being said, I doubt the legendary rates increase in group play.. It'd be nice though. |
