Here's my Wizard. My goal is to get him to around 75K DPS. How the heck do people get theirs so high? I know I can upgrade my helm. I've been trying to get a better one for awhile now. I've been trying to get an amulet with crit chance and damage, but haven't had any success. Well honestly pretty much everything could be upgraded right now, but what kind of gear should I get to get my DPS in the 75-100K range? Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Edit: Also, I don't have that much money to spend, so keep things reasonable. |

@nightcrawler9 "...so keep things reasonable" Hate to break it to you. But heading to the 75k to 1k zone and keeping it reasonable is not likely without farming farming farming. You'll either pick up what you need in A3 or need to spend some gold on the AH. Before you take the journey, you should ask the all important question of: "what build am I going to use?" This will greatly impact your choices. For instance, mages that need to cast multiple spells over the course of a few seconds (critical mass variants of wicked wind, meteor, etc.) require lots of APOC and must find gear with that affix along with the other necessary requirements such as all resistance, armor, life steal or life on hit, and IAS. If you are going for an archon build, you'll need zero APOC unless you use some secondary spells for when you're out of archon. With this new patch, gone are the days where you can past this game with 15k dps using a CM/WW/EB build. Looking at your profile, I'd say work on increasing your crit damage, INT, and attack speed. Personally, I would drop the glass cannon on your passive as it will give you a false feeling of superiority if you're not actually using a glass cannon build such as archon. |

Oh, if you need some gear, I've got some some inexpensive items I'll give you. Just try and pass it on to other wizards that are in your position now when you finally move on to greater gear. |

I know it's going to be pretty freaking expensive, it's just I'd rather not get suggestions like "Go get a 440 damage Tal Rasha's Orb" or something like that. I know that would solve a lot of problems, it's just highly unreasonable to tell me that because I don';t have hundreds of million of gold haha. As for glass cannon I've been just fooling around with skills lately and seeing what I like. Was trying out glass cannon last time I played and haven't switched to anything else yet. Was thinking about switching it though because I don't like feeling so frail. And sounds good. |

So first I'd start with, "which build?" There are three major build types in my opinion: 1) Archon dependent. This is everything thrown into trying to stay in this form as long as possible and support for when you happen to not be in it. I'm using this now and its quite fun. With enough movement speed you can clear A3 almost as fast as a certain para level 100 barb. 2) Tank. The typology involves throwing down a frost nova followed by multiple tornado's or meteors to keep your both the damage and the freeze constant. My previous build. I think its dead due to the patch unless they increase the procs on energy twister or meteor. There is no reason to use twister anymore in this patch. 3) Kite. This typology often involves hydra's, a long range spell like arcane orb, and teleport to get you out. Fun. But it takes too long to dance around. I'm a linear kind of guy. I've seen and toyed with hybrids such as kiting and using archon as a last resort but the playstyle doesn't suit me. I like being an all or nothing kind of player. I was a shocknado player and you can see some of my video's on my profile with me destroying all the bosses very quickly but this strategy will likely not work due to the next patch. |

I'm liking the kind of build I'm using right now, a critical mass build. I just don't like that I'm following what a lot of other people are doing too haha. I like being different from the pack. I've found that Energy Twister works just fine for me. I didn't play wizard much before the patch so I don't know how much better it used to be, but It seems pretty effective for me currently. My original plan was to have sort of a cold spell wizard with Blizzard as sort of my main spell. I don't know how viable it is, but I've always liked using cold spells in games. |

Hi @Khan I hope this is not too off-topic, but... mind elaborating on the Archon built? I have a level 59 (soon to be 60) wizard and I am interested in it. which particular stats one should look for? High DPS in general? |

@venoom Good question. Its essentially the same build for any high end wizard with 3 major exceptions: 1) Life steal. Instead of life on hit, life steal scales better with higher DPS characters. Sure, you can have a life on hit item, no biggie, but to be optimal, use life steal once you're over the 70k dps range. Additionally, the archon beam is similar to the disintegrate beam in that it travels through all monsters allowing you to hit multiple units at once. This exponentially causes more life to be gained, if needed. 2) Arcane Power on Critical Hit (APOC). Not necessary unless you're running a secondary spell that requires it when archon is down/recharging. "If archon is down, warp to town" as some purists would say. Me, I use electrocute/forked lighting while waiting to recharge archon. 3) Movement speed. Archon, unlike any other build the wizard uses, requires victims. Wizard needs food badly and that food is squishy monsters. For every monster killed, archon stays active for an additional second. Therefore, the quicker you can traverse expanses and reach the next pack of victims, the greater chance you will be able to stay in archon form. Some people like to use the teleport rune on archon but I prefer using improved archon for the additional damage and protection. Thats it. Stack normally as you would with IAS, all resist, vitality, armor, crit chance, and crit damage. The more of all these, of course, the better; no matter what build you're using. Why use archon? Your armor and resists are increased by 40% and the beam does 300% damage. Given that the majority of archon users have a base damage of 100k, thats a lot of damage. You stack it with arcane dynamo, thats 375% damage. Use Arcane dynamo and improved archon, thats 400% damage... |

Bought a couple upgrades yesterday that boosted my DPS to 39K. Khan, let me know when you want to meet up or whatever for those items, if any of them would be an upgrade for me. |

@Khan funny enough it looks like he doesn't have any life steal. I'm not sure if would ever really be needed with that DPS, though, and the eHP ain't bad either. Maybe on monster level 10 or on the ubers it would be useful. |

@sabin Yeah, no lifesteal would definitely be an issue at higher monster levels or those damn reflect damage mobs. |

Funny how much stronger it could have been if she threw on Arcane Dynamo instead of CM: Her build Probably would have come close to 1 shotting Ghom. |

Gone as high as MP3. Any higher things take too long to die. Been wanting to upgrade my weapon and rare ring for awhile but haven't been able to find any deals. |

@euggie I'd suggest getting rid of the damn knockback bracers first! As far as a less expensive option goes, I think a mempo with something for your eHP like VIT, or a witching hour with AR on the lower side (around 40). If you get a mempo, you'll wanna get an APoC source. I'm not sure how much as a minimum, but 10 total is not gonna be good enough for a single target. Without spending hundreds of millions, you're gonna have to sacrifice either DPS, eHP, or freezing ability, unless you want to be mediocre in all areas. What's your priority for these? For me, I first try to have high eHP, then stats for freezing, and DPS is my last concern. |
