Hi all,
before 1.0.5, I spent lot of time on AH, trying to find good values to flip. I was moderately successful at best but most of my gold came from doing that. farming was really hopeless, I didn't have gear good enough to farm Act 3, low Paragon/MF, legendaries were scarce, and Rares almost always awful. After 1.0.5, Rares are still awful most of the time, but I find legendaries more often, and they're not all bad. I sold quite a few from 5 to 25Mio, and farming feels actually more lucrative to me. what is your opinion on this? |

I think there are still deals to be found but the "find similar" option in the auction house has normalized the market somewhat (on rares). On the one hand I want the "find similar" option to work on legendaries as well but on the other I have made some profit by flipping legendaries with properties that aren't easily searched for (for example, percent fire damage taken on andariel's visages). As far as the increased legendary drop rate; it's pretty rare for one to drop and me not to think "woop woop brimstone detected".

My opinion so far.
1.02 and earlier. Flipping... I think. AH prices were unstable and the market was still quite new and open. 1.03. Crafting was king. I made decent money crafting, mostly helmets and legs. (Because I couldn't afford wrist/glove recipies) 1.04. Flipping was good. I made some money with this, but it is still very time consuming. 1.05. Just go out and loot loot loot. and lastly just get lucky. The easiest way to money is still finding that jackpot 1bil item... only, this is not controllable. But I have limited knowledge. Highest my total gold ever went was about 70 mil, and most expensive item sold was 40 mil. |

AH wins by a mile. However, you must have a lot of patience and monitor prices on a handful of items very thoroughly. Done properly, you'll earn millions more gold flipping items than waiting to find that one jackpot item.
At the end of the day, do whatever gives you more pleasure. |

If you
1) have sufficient capital 2) knowledgeable about the market 3) take pleasure in being an AH tycoon 4) have time and patience Flip........only high end rares, sets and legendaries ONLY if there is an obvious arbitrage opportunity. We are talking about 5m and above profits and more than 50% profit. Else, just go kill mobs as fast as you can. With how the P level and NVs work I am getting somewhere close to 750k gold per hour from gold pick up alone (hence no point wasting time trying to flip medium end rare). |
