Containing endless amounts of warfare between Heaven and Hell, the Diablo series of games are easily up there with the very best of them. From forums to discuss key features in the latest game to YouTube channels that feature the games a lot, this action role-playing dungeon crawler has built up a large community following its undoubted success.

Alongside its fast-paced, all-action gameplay and the randomly generated maps that make the games so enticing is a cohort of angels who have more than played their part in making the Diablo series what it is today. These angels play a key role in making sure their group is a dangerous proposition, all through showcasing their immense power with holy spells and armaments. They aren’t always together, though, and while they’re undoubtedly tough to see off as one, they aren’t all equal.

These angels are feared by demons and contribute to an epic war between Heaven and Hell that is impossible not to be captivated by. Of course, other fantasy war games you can play are engrossing and have pulled in gamers from around the globe, but there’s something about Diablo that makes it an entirely unique product. The angels in the game are certainly a part of it, with their fascinating gifts and varying combat abilities adding another layer of intrigue to this much-loved product.

With the Diablo angels helping to make the series so good, let’s salute three of them below.

Urzael, Harbinger of Death

An unforgettable character from Diablo 3, Urzael is an intimidating presence who essentially wants to end the human race after witnessing its evil. Joining forces with his master, this terrifying beast vows to destroy Sanctuary and its entire population. This death-chasing force is a formidable presence, particularly when players come up against him in Act 5. Overall, Urzael, coupled with his Death Maidens, is an angel who is impossible to ignore.

Seraziel, Guardian of Malthael

We couldn’t really leave out Seraziel, right? As one of the Death Maidens who serves Malthael, this integral character is part of one of the most fearsome groups of angels in the entire series. The Death Maidens always put up a strong fight, but Seraziel is arguably the most horrifying one of them all. Seraziel’s defeat, which sees the spirits freed from the Soul Prison in the Pandemonium Fortress, is one of Diablo’s most iconic moments for many, while reigning supreme against her in Diablo 2 when she is presented as the final Death Maiden is a stern test. Her powers are immense, especially when she manages to summon a host of equally powerful assassins, a move that presents even more of a challenge to players of the game. For many, Seraziel is up there with some of the very best characters in the series, and it’s entirely understandable as to why.

Inarius, The Rogue Angel

There’s a reason why so many members of the Diablo community adore Inarius, and it isn’t because he’s cute and cuddly. In fact, this feared Archangel is a devastating warrior whose power increases throughout the game, particularly when he has the Worldstone's might at his disposal. Also involved in a magical romance with Mephisto’s demon daughter Lilith, although he isn’t a direct member of the Angiris Council, Inarius has more than played his part in the conflict that has occurred in the games. His desire to put an end to the warfare is admirable in the end, though, and the creation of the new dimension of Sanctuary is one of the game’s highlights. For that, plus more, Inarius is definitely one of the best angels in the games.
