A I being a jerk by bidding low when I know

that the auction will end during maintenance?

So, when I read that the maintence was going to be pretty long, I wondered if I would be able to snap up anything on the real cheap, so I put in a bunch of low bids on both the GAH and RMAH (39 bids in total) ... i mean, some were crazy, insanely low, as low as 3,500 gold.

All the bids were on zuni rings as I've been following them pretty much the last month so I've got a good feel for price points. Prior to this maintenance, the absolute cheapest that I've seen zuni rings go for is 400,000. The low ones average around 700k-800k now, which is what I've been mostly buying on the GAH then flipping on the RMAH. I put the bids in around 1130pm and the maintaince was schedule to go off at 4:00am.

Is what I did the right thing to do or the wrong thing to do?

You did the right thing. You practically stop them from being expired without a buyer. You also save the seller trouble of relisting them.

It's just part of the game, really. I was told that most people know it's coming so there's a lot of bidding ahead of time, anyway. There won't be any sniping to push the bids up just a little at the end, but overall, I don't think it's going to have a huge impact. Ultimately, you can sooth your conscience knowing that someone else would've done it if you hadn't and you at least caused them to sell for over minimum bid when someone else put in a bid above you. You'll probably win a few of those auctions, but no one is going to go bankrupt from from selling a 400k Zuni ring for 50k.

You don't appear to be particularly poor. For the rest of this, maintenance is like Black Friday so it's a bit more important to us. ;)

If a seller lists a starting bid lower than they'd be willing to sell it for, then it's 100% the fault of the seller. This is the case even if there was no maintenance.

Yeah I have a decent amount of gold on me but Im still a cheapskate. I refuse to pay 100 mil for 5k dps if even that. Sniping is the only time I have to get good gear cheap. Im stuck at money > gear stage.

Update.

I won *1* of the auctions. Seems multiple people had the idea and put the bids up those items after I went to bed. I guess next time I'm going to have to get up at 3:30am to do this.

For those keeping track at home, the one ring I won was for 700k that had an int of +112 - which will go for around 1.3M, so overall not much of a pick-up on my end.

oh well, I tried.

Maintenance usually happen at about 8pm my time so I have plenty of time advantage should I want to try this....but I prefer to spend time with my family!

Its the right thing to do as self-responsibility is moral. As those people did not remove their auctions, they were irresponsible or indifferent so therefore they are either immoral or uncaring about their auctions. So you liberated those items from people that didn't care about them or lacked morality.

If you search enough of bnet or otherwise, everything you do in D3 is condemned by someone else.

Playing certain classes is frowned upon. Flipping is evil. Buying anything on RMAH makes you a bad player. Selling anything on RMAH makes you part of the problem. Not playing Hardcore means you're worthless. On and on. Fxck em all.

As stated - it's the seller's responsibility to post items for prices at which he finds acceptable.

On this note. My maintenance purchase today was a new amulet:

8 IAS. 625 LOH. 63 CHD. 21 MF. 5.0 CC.

20M Bid win. Thank you.

No.

I have no problems with anyone except botters and scammers. Everything else is fair game.
