FYI I just posted this silly idea on the D3 forum. I never gave them a thorough thought and I am prepared to be called stupid on the forum.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My suggestions for a second PvP option (option 1 = Blizzard's 1.07 PvP mode) to be elected by players: 1. Only white or gray armors and weapons are allowed 2. Stats from P-level are allowed 3. Each match of White Mode PvP require a Fiery Brimstone as an entrance fee 4. You may forge a cool looking fiery white weapon at the blacksmith using Fiery Brimstone. The damage range on such a fiery white weapon (probably differ by weapon class) is the same for all players. Such a fiery white weapon will be destroyed should you lose the PvP. It remains with you should you win a PvP. Benefits: 1. Hopefully less one-shot-deaths. More minutes (or hours, depends on the skills used) or hacking the same player in one duel. 2. This opens up a new market for white and gray armors. Now they finally have meaning. Let the hunt begin! 3. You may do PvP naked should you be lazy to find white and gray armors. It would be a great scene (sin?) of naked duels. 4. P-level now means SOMETHING. You better watch out if you are a P-7 trying to take on a P-70. 5. Too much brimstones? Sink it, sink it here! |
how do you ensure someone doesn't swap a weapon mid fight?
any suggestion that will remove all the "I have a bigger e-penis gear, thus i will own your ass in PvP" are/will be the only way to balance PvP.
It's the only way, people just don't want to see it because everyone like to have Uber gear. |
Hopefully the gear check is done by the NPC matchmaker, and swapping is locked. |
Hellooooo Balanced White Weapons market! +20% IAS, baby. Every single white dueler (that sounds so wrong...) would need one. That market is already a good source of sales as evidenced by the Balanced white dagger market for WD. Azurewrath has already killed the 1H Balanced market and this would bring it back.
I like it. In fact, it's such a good idea, I'm wondering if it's worth collectively investing time testing it on our own. It will take a lot of work to find a full ilvl 63 white playset. MF would be soooo bad for that we might need a large group effort to do it. |
In fact I had my own agenda in suggesting it.....I have some Balanced White Weapons which I did not sell on the AH for those 250k......:P |
We could also just fight naked. I can lend my white weapons for each duel.
Saw this over at D3db. That used to be my main forum, but it's pretty dead over there now. The database info (specially for achievements) are still pretty useful.
erm... but thats not the point. The point is, here is another idea like your White mode. http://d3db.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=859 |
I wonder if you could expand this a bit to include all item types but limit by ilvl. Say unlimited white/grey items, magic items up to ilvl 55, rare up to ilvl 50 and legendary/sets up to ilvl 45. This would probably give a big boost to the market for most mid to high level gear.
I think too many duel formats would start to fragment the userbase too far. I think the PvP community willing to spend Gold/money on gear that's only good for PvP is pretty small already. If you end up with 6 or 10 official duel formats, then you fragment that community even further into people that prefer ilvl 50 dueling, some that only like open dueling, others that like White items, and another set that likes No Crits open dueling, etc.
I like the idea of the pick-up game streams with unusual rules. There could be an equipment "draft", too, if you have a huge amount of time. Four players get a chance to view a pre-selected set of 48 armor items for 10 minutes, each hand-picked by the DM with a variety of stat attributes. Then they each draft 1 piece of equipment at a time probably via a Google Docs with Chat (automatically updating Stat attributes as they go along). Players are not allowed to draft more than 1 item per item slot, rings excepted. Those players then choose a class, weapon and offhand from their own stash and enter a game with the DM who trades them the items they drafted. This way, if two people start drafting with the desire to play as a DH and all the Dex items start going early, one of them could shift to Barb and snap up all the good Strength items and end up with an overpowered Barb. Or maybe someone decides to go Tank and takes all the high Vit items regardless of the other stats available. It's still all honor system based, because there would be no way to keep all the players and the DM in the game at once. After the match, everyone would trade their armor back to the DM and pick up whatever prize money is leftover from the entrance fees minus the DM's cut. |
