I'm not completely sure where to put this thread, but what is the point of life steal. With the help of everyone here I've gotten my dps up to 110k...which with 3% life steal should be around 3k life back a second...or am I doing the math wrong? It just doesn't seem that good to me. Thanks!

Life Steal?

Life steal is reduced by 80% in Inferno. With that said life steal is still better than life on hit especially around 110k DPS.

Ahh, I see...sort of....what if I have something around +1200 life on hit? If life steal is reduced by 80% in Inferno, won't that be higher?

3% life steal should be around 3k life back a second (Reduced by 80% in Inferno) Still good after the reduction. Sometimes your toon do a much greater DPS than shown on the paper doll, due to speicial buff, skills, or simply by hitting multiple targets per second. My monk was on 2.80% lifesteal 120-150k DPS (now 0%....redundant in my MP0 farming). |

For someone like an Archon wizard life on hit doesn't matter like at all because it pretty much never procs. But for a witch doctor that uses Acid Rain I think LoH might be a bit better because it procs a shit ton. |

As a demon hunter you can refer to this guide for life on hit rates. Let's say you have +1200 life on hit and a skill has a 50% proc rate, you will receive 600 hp when you use that skill. |

My general rule of thumb is high DPS can use life steal. This means wizards, witch doctors and demon hunters. Monks and barbs want Life on hit. Just my .02c

I am not comfortable seeing you excluding monks and barbs from the definition of 'high DPS' :)

I think that's the general consensus, the main question is where you draw the line on what is high DPS. I've seen some people draw the line as low as 70k and some people define it as high as 150k. |

It's more about CD than dps. Most people with dps that high have a lot of it coming from CD. That means they're hitting for 50k, then 300k, then 50k. When they hit for 50k, they would be better off with LoH. When they hit for 300k, Life Steal is better. I think that's where some of the confusion is coming in on where you draw the line. Someone with 20% CC, 500% CD is going to have about the same displayed dps as someone with 50% CC and 200% CD, but the person with 20% CC is going to be better off with LoH, because they're only getting their 300k hits 1 out of every 5 hits. The person with 50% CC is going to be hitting for 150k half the time and should probably be using Life Steal. You can't answer the LoH vs. LS question unless you know your CC and CD. |

I just use both :) Can't afford the LS weapons, so they have LOH, Belt has my LS. I'm sitting at 2200LOH and 3.00 LS.

Dual Wielding can actually run into the same problem if you alternate weapons on attacking. Your offhand weapon will strike for much less damage (LoH) than your mainhand (LS). Some of use aren't Barbs and can't get LS on our Belts. :-P If you use skills that only use primary hand damage though, then it's not an issue. Man, Barbs are OP. Serves them right they're worthless in PvP. |
