Thoughts on Patch 1.0.8?

I just downloaded the PTR and my first impression of the monster density change is very positive. Here is a quick video showing off two areas in act 2.

I should also mention that Nephalem Valor's bonus experience is now multiplicative. This means at 5 NV stacks on MP10 you will be getting 1100% instead of the previous 685% bonus experience.

Sleep time now.... oh and identify all is cool too.

I love the new density, over 500 mobs killed in Weeping Hollow :D you get around 15mil exp per run in MP10

@Raulz0r that sounds promising, because I would like to actually run through the game from start to end, instead of repeating Act3 another million times.

Checked a few things this morning.

Holy crap Act 1 is awesome now. I had no more trouble than I usually do (because I suck) at keeping up WotB in Act 1 Fields of Misery. Even the graveyard has 5 mobs.

Desolate Sands in Act 2 has too many mobs! Those insects hit hard and the poison clouds are nasty in groups. I didn't notice any huge increase in mob density in the Oasis, but maybe it was already okay.

There's no noticeable increase in elite density.

There's an option to remove the salvage dialogue box for Rares and Uniques.

It doesn't take any longer to Indentify All with a UnID'd unique in your inventory (stupid ilvl 62 axe so I wasn't depress I got it on the PTR).

Haven't checked Act IV, but that was already pretty dense.

Only applies to Inferno so we won't see a huge influx of Leoric's Signets or Buriza's.

Full Act clears are completely doable now without feeling like you're wasting your time.

It must have taken forever to go through and increase mob density so props to the dev team.

Who's up for some multiplayer tonight? I can probably only handle MP5 or so in a group. I discovered DH/WD is a great pair so I might be looking for a WD to run with.

And lastly. Wheeeeeee!

Ur video is on MP1 Im guessing since your one shoting elites, haha. Ive been doing MP10 on here, everything is insane. If anyone is on the PTR and wants to play, hit me up, will be on PTR more then live atm.

@Raulz0r Oh what? I thought the crafting changes were supposed to make it faster, like you select 5 to be crafted and it would only take the time of crafting 1 item. But it seems like they only automated the process. Is it like that for gems?

yeah it's for everything, an interesting thing I found out though is that now you don't need to have the mats on the inventory to craft, when you are at the artisan you are scanned by the game of all the items in your stash that are craftable

Overall, stoked about the increase in monster density. I may just actually play a bit now instead of just doing auction house tycoon. I've wanted to mess around in act 1 but haven't felt it worthwhile - looks like that might have changed for the positive.

Also - seems that leg / set are dropping nicely again in the ptr - so hopefully the first few days they'll drop a ton like every other patch.

For legendary drops don't get your hopes up, they don't more often than usual, of course now with a lot more trash mobs to kill, statistically you have a higher chance of drop rate.

So tonight I did some grp-age with a full party. Myself, a monk, a CM wiz for a good bit, then had another join us, with people here and there joining and leaving. Here are my results, might make a video:

-- From Start of Act 1 questing to Caverns of Areanea* I got about 7 bubbles of exp. Most of the time was only with 2 others so not full exp buff. If I had a solid reliable grp, it would prob be more. Was going for 5 stacks and only killing whites and refreshing stacks.

-- From Start of Act1 to Caverns I found 8 Legs. More mobs to kill? More chances for legs IMO! My MF was only 625%.

-- Caverns of A gave me 80% of a bubble after hitting 95. In total for just doing that zone to the spider queen, I received over 23,000,000 exp just in that room ALONE. Would of been 1 full bubble but 2 people left mid threw while a me and another cleared it to her. ((New farming xp area??))

-- BIGGEST RESULT: Just doing this and questing was actually really fun to me. As I saw people complaining on general about itemization, how this game is shit, and everything else in the book, I sat back, grinding and had the most fun on D3 in weeks. :))

XP bubble is the 10% XP line in the XP bar. Unless I'm mistaken.

So 1 level = 10 XP bubbles.

Yeah sorry, should of been clearer. Each Para lvl has 10 bubbles, so after doing just Caverns of A, I hit 95 and also gained about 80% of a bubble, around 23,000,000 exp. Will do more runs tonight.

New Update

So after convincing Eric (yoyo) to join me on the PTR we did a quick Paragon EXP crunch.
First we picked up our 5 stacks of NV then headed to Whispering Hollow so Eric could see the new density. After doing that, we headed to Caverns of Areanea. Here are the results:

-- Bonus Exp, 1,129% with only Eric and I, missing 2 other players to complete the bonus EXP.
-- Starting Exp at entrance, 68,707,056.... Ending Exp at Queen, 90,545,629.
-- Total experience recieved was 21,838,573. ALMOST 22Mil Exp. (In about a 3min span.)

Saw a post on the ptr forums about an XP goldmine.

Realm of Shadows, only killing shadow spawners. Did a test.
-- Run Time: 3mins, NV Stacks: 0, Exp Bonus: 587%
-- Exp per hour: 274 Million. (Yes, that's correct, 274 mil on a semi sloppy run.) Have also seen claims of 330 mil per hour with a full grp, no NV stacks.

Possible nerf inc or the best thing to ever happen?

No NV stacks, No one in group, Exp Bonus: 587%.
Xp/hr: 138,000,000~ in a 4min run. (Could only imagine how much in grp play. This is a fun run.)

There will be a nerf for sure. They added multiplicative NV stacks and nerfed scorpions so players would kill elites. They want to discourage any trash only EXP runes.

Added a Wheeping Hollow XP/Hr in that same post, just edited it.

I thought they wrote somewhere that they know people like only kill whites and thats ok with Blizzard, they are giving the NV exp/grp buff to encourage killing elites. Ima go on a link hunt. Haha.

Personally I think the massive XP boosts come from NV being added multiplicative instead of additive.

Sure, the multiplayer bonus adds even more.
But you get 75% from 5 NV stacks, and only 30% from multiplayer.

All in all I like it. Because I have always liked getting my 5 stacks up and then playing for longer sessions, instead of repeating a tiny bit and killing white mobs.

I really look forward to getting 5 stacks in act1 somewhere, and just keep running that one game until I run out of play time, or I kill diablo.



In short, if they keep it like this there would be NO reason not to get the 5 stacks first.
For example MP10 xp goes from 676% (Assuming 31% Ruby and Hellfire ring) with 0 stacks to 1183% with 5 stacks.
Currently it goes from 676% with 0 stacks to a whopping 751%.

*EDIT. With the proposed way NV works you will be able to get more XP in 1.08 on MP7 solo than you can currently get on MP10 solo. So this is about the same effect as the 1.07 increased MP XP had.


Yes, I go on and on... but I missed the change in the PTR notes.
