A forum post discussed this issue a little.
"certain servers have good drops and some have bad drops, each time you log in you are connected to a random server this is how you can find servers with better drops than others. 1) go to your cmd promt while logged into a game (not at the log in screen or at char screen but in a game) 2) type in "netstat -n" into your cmd promt to find what server you are connected to the last 4 digits of the ip are what matter. anything with 3 digits sucks and typically games with 2 digit ending in even numbers are good loot games. The best ones are "74:1119" and "76:1119" but 72-78 even work also, games like 46 also work. I did not find this exploit myself I was watching a live stream of someone using it and took a few screen shots and put the pieces together they tested this in over 60 runs." Anyone want to test this? |
Some Servers Have Better Drops?

I am curious about this. It of course is all bs.

I would agree with calling it bs - but for one exception.
Uber D spawned via server #. I really, really don't discount anything when it comes to Activblizzard and I can certainly see where one of the servers could be a "test" server where they allow more things to happen. Another item I'd wonder about is how certain quests spawn. Does quest "x" always spawn on "server #1" but never on server #2? What about treasure goblin types? There's 4 of them - that we know - but does type 1 only spawn on server #1-25, type 2 on server #26-50 and so on? Not trying to wear a tin-foil here, and I realize it will take a TON of data collection to figure out what/if/how does better loot (and by better I'll consider all "legendary" items better, even ilvl 61 and down) spawn? The other question somebody brought up that may very well impact items is solo play vs co-op play. If you'll remember, in one of the 1.04 release notes we were told that the developers wanted to "encourage" co-op play. Well, what better way to encourage co-op by then by giving better drops in co-op games?????? |

The cake is a lie.
The server has nothing to do with what spawns. Trust me it does not matter what port or "instance" of the server you are connected too. |

@anuiran
what's your take on co-op vs single having a difference on the quality of loot, esp after that comment they made during the 1.04 patch? |

I am not sure what comment you are referring too but I feel it has no impact what so ever now that mf/gf is no longer averaged.

I remember seeing this post and collecting that data for about 20 trials. The only thing I can say with certainty is that hitting those "hot" numbers (72-78) did not guarantee a "good" run. The times I hit those, the runs were not stellar. The "good loot" runs were all of over the place, a few were odd.
Conclusion: Given the number of necessary trials to give a strong p-value, the subjectivity of good loot, and the difficulty in proving someone is giving truthful data, it's impossible to draw any conclusion from anything that anyone says about this. My feeling is this: if it really worked, to a degree, let's say, that you were getting a few legendaries every run, then someone could easily program a "bot" to optimize the server addresses. They could run it 24/7 (maybe on an easier act) and if that were the case, you would DEFINITELY see/hear about this from Blizzard. BS at its finest :) |

@anurian
What I'm talking about is that in one of the 1.04 patch notes, one of the developers made a comment that they wanted to increase the amount of co-op play that is happening - they weren't happy with it as they thought it was more "fun" to run together. Thus, my thought was, hmmmm, not only do they change how MF is considered, maybe they give an unknown bonus to MF if the game has multiple players. Every single legendary I've gotten (4 of them), along with the only blacksmith plan I found, was dropped in a co-op game .... and overall I've played a lot more hours in solo than co-op. |

i remember back in d2 days the # of players affected the amount that would drop, and so it made sense to farm in full 8 player games, and your corresponding mf would affect the quality of drops... so more ppl = more drops, not sure if that applies in d3 or not as well... |

Not that i'm suggesting the 'loot server' is real, but i do take note of which server i'm on (i don't go changing servers looking for them) anyway.. so I was on .72 today and got 3 plans
havn't seen a plan see pre-1.0.4 and get 3 in one run of act2 only worth 10k, 70k, and 270k each, but still... 3 plans also found an amulet worth ~3mil love RNG |

I currently have a 100% legendary drop rate on ips 72/74, tested about 7-8 times.
