Torchlight 2

The official forums are full of T2 topics, and everybody is comparing both games.

Here we can at least discuss it with calm without all the whiners :)

so what do you think?
will you be playing it?

I tried Torchlight for 30mn or so, the cartoon graphics really turned me off.
I usually don't care about graphics (except PS1/Saturn 3D that I find horrible) and occasionally enjoy plaing some very old 2D games.
but the cartoonish style of Torchlight felt like a Flash game and turned me off it completely.

My friend really really really likes the Torchlight games and is forcing me to get the second one. As someone who has never played the first game I can't really form an opinion but it looks to be a pretty good ARPG but I don't think it could ever take me away from Diablo.

For me, the first one was a little too simple and the fact that Enchanting Weapons were pretty much always better than anything that dropped, while simultaneously having a chance to break really ended up turning me off. It sounds like Enchanting no longer can break an item and there's a cap to Enchanting which were the best mods, imo, to the original. I'll be picking it up, but I still have Diablo 3 to farm, FTL to get through, the Milwaukee Brewers baseball team to follow and I'm up to the final boss in Dragon Quest 9. I haven't even started KH 3DS. Finding room for T2 will be difficult.

That said, I can play FTL, DQ9 and KH 3DS once everyone has gotten bored with Torchlight 2. I pretty much missed the first 2 weeks of D3 and that turned out to be a much bigger deal than I thought it would be. I would hate to miss out on the Torchlight 2 frenzy, too. Learn from one's mistakes, right?

@Anuiran I think you'll like T2 for at least a few weeks before it starts getting a little stale. It's going to be well worth the $20 price tag.

I just spent some time reading up on Torchlight 2 info and the fact that character saves are stored on your computer makes me kinda "meh" on Torchlight 2. The fact anyone could just give themselves the best items instantly really takes away any drive for making my character awesome.

It seems to be more focused on singleplayer and have "fun and mod the game!" and not persistent online experience that I originally thought it had.

This morning i watched some play-thourgh of Torchlight 2 at ForceStrategy Gaming.

The story (at first) seamed sooooooo similar to Diablo 1. The graphics are beyond cartoony. I watched 5-10 minutes and i decided i've got better things to waste my time with.

yeah, not sure why they went with such a horrible graphic style.
hopefully it can be modded.

however, one of my best experiences as a gamer came from a game where I initially hated the graphics: Zelda The Wind Waker on GameCube.

I played one hour, found it boring, and hated the graphics.
then several months later, I gave it another try. I loved the game and ended up loving the graphics.

@Santient You would really skip a game solely because of the graphics or the graphics + Diablo 1 storyline? Gameplay and loot practically always trumps everything else as long as everything else is passable.

Anyone planning on playing torchlight2, let me know. I own a copy and will probably start playing it soon to get some time away from diablo ;-)

I wasn't really dismissing it because of the graphics... the D1 relation did put me off a bit, put for now i'm content with D3. And i have a feeling that will hold me for some time. Between house, work, gf and D3, i have no extra time for another game.
