why do gobs always spawn next to elites?

i was doing a run last night and had 3 gobs got away because
#1 stupid follower would aggro them
#2 jailer/waller/firechain affix would stop me

why do they almost always seem to spawn next to elites? this can't be a coincidence, right?

DH's have it good. Smokescreen doesn't activate gobs so you can smokescreen, run behind them and herd them to an area you've already cleared. They've apparently fixed the follower activation issue in 1.0.5. I agree that Elites often seem to be right around the corner curiously often.

I like in next patch that there will be a sound when they are aggroed. Might save me a few, but I swear no gobs drop anything good for me anyway.

In 103 A1 I had a Natalya's cloak drop from a goblin kill.

Yeah I've never had anything decent drop from one. Just crappy rares.

Spawn points are not really that random, it's rather the chances of spawning. Gob spawn points are often close to elite spawn points. No surprise

i got my first legendary off a gob in act 3 (IK helm)

I bet you are talking about Act III

In Act I the maps are less confined. Plenty of open locations for goblins to spawn and run around.

yes, you are correct... maybe i should've been more specific...
i only farm a3... so maybe my view is skewed

found a tormentor off a gob yesterday night... its not a great staff, but still an ilvl61
