Disney has just signed the contract to buy Lucasfilm for 4.05 BILLION dollars and have made the statement that the first movie will be made and then released some time in 2015.
I have been a Star Wars fan for moSt of my life. This is so f-ing exciting to me. Discuss... EDIT: I just found out this weekend that my father took me to see EP IV at the theatre when I was 3 years old. That was pretty cool to here, and yes, I'm THAT old! |

That's a lot of money. I'm pretty excited and just hope Disney will do the series justice. I was obsessed with the original series as a kid.

Look what Disney did with Marvel since they bought 'em.
I'm not going to complain. |

The comment sections in these articles are filled with such negative feedback, much like D3's official forums. My wife actually called me at work (repeatedly when I didn't answer her calls right away) to tell me this news.
I am slightly apprehensive about this but the fan boy in me can't wait to see what a powerhouse like Disney can do to this franchise. I hope for great things and I don't feel like these are going to be retreads. |

Excited, but nervous myself. Those Marvel movies had some nice action scenes, but I just hope Disney won't butcher the historic storyline/lore of Star Wars.

Well if I remember right there is actual sequels out there that take place after episode six. I don't know if they were ever officially from George Lucas or canon to the series, but I wonder if they're going to take those things as inspiration.

Let's just hope that said lore won't lose its will to live, then. Or that its midichlorian count gets too low. |

IIRC - George "outlined" all 9 books in the series - with 4/5/6 being the first done.
4 was awesome 5 was the best, by far 6, well, somebody in marketing got ahold of #6 and thought they could sell stuff to kids 1, see #6 2, not as bad as #1, but you get my drift 3, back to the original idea for the series, and to the heck with selling stuff for the kids. I can only hope they stay with the original dark side of the series, but with disney involved, who knows, but at least the series will be "finished". I can saw with all certainty that I'm looking forward to these movies more than any other out there. If they can come to 50% of level of episode #5 then I'll be happy with 7/8/9. |

Yes, rumor has it that Lucas originally outlined nine stories in the series & that he started the very first movie from the middle w/ Epsiode IV. Whether 7-9 were already written, are simply in draft form, or what, is not known, though.
I believe baccarat0809's analysis of movies 1-6 is fairly accurate. Though Ewoks & the marketing of toys aside, I believe Return of the Jedi is still tons better than Phantom Menace. Seriously, IMHO Jar Jar Binks & midichlorians in Episode 1 almost made me want to boycott Episodes 2 & 3. :-0 Even today, I can re-watch 4-6 anytime, but of the first three, I'd probably maybe only re-watch #3... Looking forward to The Hobbit at the moment, & Iron Man 3... Star Wars is a looong way away... :) |
