Today we voted to legalize weed for recreational use. Now I want this to pass since those that smoke will we might as.well tax the crap out of it. Of course I work federally so pass or fail it doesn't change.my life.

I'm a capitalist so I think all drugs should be legal. Creating a black market for an item creates a higher cost of the item and adds to the items propensity to cause users to resort to force to obtain the object or maintain market control. One has no legal recourse against drug dealers (civil and criminal courts, negative reviews, etc) since the products in question are not legal and therefore more primitive and draconian means are utilized to obtain refunds or show displeasure at the merchant or buyer.

@khan I'd be concerned for both you and I if all drugs were legal.

For the most part drugs are legal. Let me explain and give some background.

I have had 2 very bad injuries in my life, 1 due to hereditary disk degeneration (L5 and L6 disks are virtually destroyed in my lower back and I've spent countless days in bed due to the pain and have even spent over 2 weeks total time in various stints in the hospital) and the other due to an accident that blew apart my upper right arm and shoulder (broke my upper arm in 4 places, shoulder bone was basically shattered, rotator cuff ripped off the bone and more screws and metal than you can imagine was used to put me back together - so much so that I set off the metal detectors in an airport). While I can't function without the Oxycodone, Flexerol and Fentanyl patches that I'm on because the pain level and muscle spasms are so high, I see tons of people who really don't need it that use all sorts of hillbilly heroin (Oxy's / Vicodin / Perc's). They "try" to police it, but after being on pain killers long term now (10+ years) at least 50% of the people on the stuff with a doctor script only use it to get high - not control pain. My current doctor is pretty darn good in that not only does he do random "pill counts" by requiring you to show up with your current bottle to make sure you're taking as prescribed, he also requires anybody on a script to take a piss and blood test to make sure you're not taking anything else (coke, MJ, you name it - he tests for it), ahd he also tests to make sure you're taking what you've been prescribed. He told me he does this to not only protect his license but also to make sure he's not prescribing drugs to somebody who doesn't need them or use them as prescribed. He's the only doctor I know that does those extra tests to make sure what he gives you is what you take and only what you take.

Then don't get me started on Xanax. A friend of a friend calls them his "happy" pills - and this guy has done just about every drug you could imagine and is a large recreational MJ user on the weekends and he said he would give up everything if he had to for his happy pills. Again, doctor prescribed. Xanax is one of the easiest drugs in the world to get and will get you higher than a kite (from what I've heard as I have never tried Xanax).

Legal and illegal durg use is a huge problem in this country and most people don't see it. As a business owner i see it ALL the time ~ especially when it's bonus day as our employees can earn very large bonus checks every month. I can't tell you how many days I've seen people miss after getting a large check as they get so hammered they can't come to work, not to mention the people I've had to fire that failed a piss test (while I don't require it I do have a few clients who do require it in order for the emploiyees to work that client's accounts). GOOD PEOPLE turn bad because of this shit, but either way, legal or not, they're going to use it, even when they know they could be piss tested at any time.

Now, as a Libertarian, however, I would love to see more and more legalized so it can be TAXED. I honestly don't care what you do in the privacy of your home, as long as it doesn't effect your work, the problem is that too many let it effect their work. I also think that if it becomes legalized that most of the clients that require the pee tests would stop requiring them, so that would help me out.

Where it starts to effect others is where the line is drawn. If you hurt someone while under the influence there should be mandatory minimum sentences and if it effects job performance, all labor protections should be nullified. One should have a right to live as he pleases at home but never impose their actions on others.

@baccarat0809 I'm definitely with you on the libertarian agenda as I believe that smaller government intervention in the lives of its people lead to happier people.
