This has been around for a long time, Sweeping Wind takes a snapshot of your DPS when you cast it. Meaning if you change gear it will still keep the old value.

I didn't know people were doing that much damage with it though, it will be fixed soon I am sure.

It's always been like that ever since I can remember. That's why you want to cast all your DPS buffs (blinding flash, breath of heaven) before sweeping wind since sweeping wind will continue to output the boosted damage. The whole gear swapping thing seems a bit antiquated to me since monster power was implemented. You can just wear MF/Exp gear in a lower MP to reap the same benefits as opposed to switching gear every time. Additionally, if you lose sweeping wind, it refreshes so you need to rebuff again which can become both tedious and inefficient.

well i don't know the mechanics behind it, but i believe his argument is that he can keep up sweeping wind for the duration of his run... maybe i read that wrong

I'm having trouble finding the other post but I'm pretty sure he said he was using Inna's set to easily keep the sweeping wind up constantly. Even without Inna's set, you could still do pretty well using the 20 second duration rune.

@sabin

Yes, starting the sweeping wind isn't the problem. The problem is having blinding flash and breath of heaven ready at the same time. I will admit that with the Inna's set, the times where you lose the wind and have to recast everything are minimal (especially if you are using thunderclap), but the whole gear swapping thing to me is a waste of time. You won't see dramatic increases in legendary/set drops through the diminished MF addition and it really has no effect on exp gain since you can just run lower MP. I have yet to see an argument for more efficient farming than playing at a MP level where you can just 1-2 shot everything, so really, "swapping to DPS" serves no purpose. Also, I wouldn't use any rune except Cyclone. Cyclone's damage output is absurd.

@Metta I only meant that with the 20 second rune, you have to refresh so infrequently that the 75 spirit cost isn't too much of a problem. I read that as long as SW doesn't drop, you keep your original snapshot DPS if you refresh it. But like you said, the loss of cyclone will negate a lot of the gained DPS from the gear swap. You could probably make it work without much difficulty on an uber fight since you probably only ever have to cast it once.
