Ah, that makes sense. Wondered why I would see iLvl 58 items on the AH with some amazing stats. Does that mean class-specific items like Voodoo Masks, Wizard Hats, etc. can now roll ilvl63 stats too?

is your rare worth selling?

Just as a side note, since we already got the zombie thread going again. :)
I have recently sold 2 pairs of boots for 3mil each. (To me that is very much worth the effort, I know for other people 3 mil is pocket change). The two things the boots had in common were Pickup radius and GF. So some rares other than gloves might still be worth picking up. |

Definitely good to know, as I'm one of those players who is extremely happy if I can sell anything for over 500,000 gold...! :-) Indeed, I can probably count on one hand the number of items I've found in game that I've managed to sell for over 1 million gold... :-0 |

Got sick of re-listing rares so just put everything up for 200K. If it doesn't sell, vendor gets it.
I still love this:

a lot of ppl only pick up jewelry, gloves, and 1 handed weapons, since those good rolls have the best chance to sell for a nice profit.
i still pick up bracers and pants, and anything with archon in its name |

You can probably skip the Archon Spaulders, because Vile Wards are so common that even fantastic rare shoulders are often worth only a pittance. Even Archon Armors are pretty much worth skipping with so many people being able to move into the class-set armors. |

1H and jewelry for sure. I know how insanely frustrating it is to farm up a full inventory of 1H, rings, and amulets over several runs only to have absolute GARBAGE after IDing them all. But it would be even worse to finally find a BiS item and it's like, boots or something worth 25M. So yeah, I think it's mentally disconcerting to go for hundreds of runs without finding a single AH value item because you're not picking up much. Mathematically though, I think the most efficient way to wealth is this seemingly contradictory strategy: pick up practically nothing and only settle for the absolute best.
Gloves and bracers are maybe borderline. Some crazy gloves (let's say like, 200 primary, 65 AR, 8% AS, 38% CD, 10% CC) could hit a billion. Likewise, near perfect bracers could also hit a billion. The problem is that the margin for error is so thin (missing one of the properties or not hitting each property big drops the value BIG TIME) that these are really hit or miss, thus hurting their overall value. Other items are really bad. Is anyone out there actually using a rare for helm, boots, off-hand or chest? |

Very good yellow gear is much cheaper than their Set or Legendary counterparts. If I'm rolling up a Barb and don't want to spend 10 million Gold to equip him, I can still get pretty good dps with only 2 million Gold in Rare gear. You'll get a lot of sales in the 50-200k range for good Rare gear.
Can you imagine being a new player these days? You're trying to work your way up through Inferno when you're unable to sell anything at all you find, because there's always something better on the AH going for 10k? The only thing you can do is buy things with Gold you pick up or vendor. That 50k pair of rare gloves at clvl 60 starts to look really good. Give it a try with a clvl 1 character. 0 Gold, no gems, but free use of the auction house. You will never even sniff a Legendary. There are always a few combinations of stats on gear that is too expensive on Legendaries for even devoted players. MF and CC are good examples. It can often be far cheaper to get very good MF Rare gear than great MF Legendary gear. If you really want 6% CC on a helm for some reason, you're not going to be buying a Mempo with 6% CC and Andariel's Visage only rolls with 4.5%. Similarly, an affordable 20% MF Mempo doesn't come along very often, either. If you don't want or need the set bonuses on class-specific chests, you can save a ton of Gold by going yellow. Because Sentry was originally a Discipline skill, there are no bonus affixes for Sentry damage. As such, the best chest for a true Sentry build is actually Tal Rasha's chest with Dex. The problem is that AR on Tal Rasha's is really expensive and even if you can afford AR, then you can really only roll 100 Dex. If you need protection and can give up the 9% AS, a defensive Rare chest with lots of Dex will be a much more affordable option. They definitely only have niche uses, but every armor slot will sell, it's just a matter of how much. If you only care about 100-million Gold items, then by all means skip everything that hits the ground. If 500k Gold still means something to you, you'll want to be selectively picking up yellow armor. |
