A pre-requisite would be to associate a D3 Bnet profile to your D3RMT profile.

I like that idea!
It should restrict people from adding one bnet account to more than one forum account however |

now would be a good time, I can only imagine how many people are creating dupe accounts right now. Also winner must be using the same bnet tag on the site as when they claim. Previous winners on my giveaways were often using other tags as what they registered here |

I initially thought this was too draconian and paranoid. However, if this a "community", shouldn't we at least get to know the house and cars of our neighbors (profile and hero list)?

It'd lower the number of random people stumbling on to the site and entering and winning giveaways, which would leave the prizes to the people that actually put the effort into joining the community, not just the site. |

Forcing profiles is something I have always been cautious about as some people generally don't want others knowing who they are.
I ditched the prerequisites for entering a contest as it only created spam. I prefer the single thread or news posting approach. Contests do always see their fair share of single digit posters but who is to say they might not stay with the community once it's done? |

I see the visceral need to want to be private. I'm someone whose FB page is in Russian Cyrillic to prevent the general public from finding me. But is an already "anonymous" Bnet battletag (I hope people aren't using their real names) a layer of anonymity built in as standard? |

I think it's more people don't want random friend requests or to be bothered while playing online. Some people use the same online handle for various things also.
I am more playing devils advocate here, I am a very open person myself. I just don't think forcing it on others is the right solution. |

Or...As an amateur economist, I realize that people respond best to incentives. There could be an additional amount added to the prize IF you have a Bnet profile linked.

They are not forced. Entering a contest is at their option. They can choose not to enter the contest if they do not like the prerequisite. If they do not like FR or whisper just choose ignore or put status to busy. Personally I didn't get much FR from RMT members. Only from a couple whose names are familiar in this forum.
We are not forced. Listing item on the Auction House is at our option. We can choose not to list our items on the Auction House if we do not like the 15% cut. |

Either way, this is a good dialogue to leverage the feelings of members on this topic. Who's that @douvinsky guy? Is @gnawol really some bad mo-fo that hit P100? @yoyo and @buzzell talk a good Barb game but I'd really like to see what skills and gears they have. Maybe its more a CV for people to demonstrate credibility in their knowledge of a particular class or an easy way to have people evaluate what the weaknesses in your build are? <shrug>

I fully agree with all the benefits but a lot of people are paranoid on the internet, I have had people ask me if I am selling battletags to gold selling websites.
I am just trying to please everybody. But like I said, I will consider everyones input. |

Selling battletags? Wow. Never thought of that. Oh well. Then again, anyone that has access can add each member's battletag and sell to those sites also. Or gold selling agents can troll this site for those tags.

The black market of Diablo is pretty large and almost everyone gets gold spamming friend requests. I can understand peoples concerns. Honestly gold selling websites would just use the official forums to gather names as that's the largest source.

It is good to always exercise caution over Internet.
I remain cautious towards Anuiran guy, although I have won two contests held by him and received the prizes in good order. I mean, who knows one day he could get his account hacked and the guy behind the name is no longer a handsome dude but some girl called Sarah? Last night I received an FR from some @Baldy guy. His name sounds familiar so I added him but I am prepared to turn down his party request (surprisingly he didn't make further advance to me). I did browse his profile to see how good are his gears in botting, couldn't find any useful pieces for that purpose but I thought maybe with his build it would be fun to do a triple TR together with a geeky @yoyo guy. |

My apologies for not being more forward in my FR...I thought I had included the standard D3RMT in my message. I typically don't make advances on other dudes...women on the other hand, that is a different story all together. |

As someone who has only joined the D3RMT i'm just going to throw in my two cents.
I like the idea of that personally. I agree with the community idea here. It's a fantastic giveaway and from searching the old posts the challenges and all that, look like fun and worthwhile. Another option is that, a minimum required amount of posts to enter a competition. For this one currently i would suggest something in the area of 25 - 50. That way you know your prize will be going to active and contributing members of D3RMT. Not randoms who swoop in for the chance and then out again. And on the side as an incentive for new potential members, there could be another comp with prizes - less than the communitys of course..... you know - that tease of the real good stuff. For myself i would be donating towards prizes if i could afford or if i had items to give away, to support the community. But with a paltry 8mil gold........yeah....sez it all really :p |

Eh, I don't like the idea of a post minimum: it just makes people post crap until they hit it. I also understand about being hesitant on giving away your d3 profile before winning, but at the same point I recognize that a bunch of people probably are just making BS accounts to flood the contest.
My suggestion? Maybe add an extra ticket for every month that a user has been active on the site. That way, long-time people like Khan (if he ever wanted to win a contest, that is :-P ) would have a slightly better chance than Random Dude. Then again, I'm a convert from a contest to a contributing member, so I'm sure that some of them will be too. Honestly, the thing to be most worried about is the fake accounts, but I'm not entirely sure how to phase them out entirely. |

I think this is a great idea and an incentive for people to be a larger part of the community rather then just saying "me too" when a giveaway shows up.
Out of curiosity I made a quick scan through the holiday giveaway. Of the 130ish people entered, 84 people had less than 5 posts and only 11 of those had linked accounts. In that group 56 had only 1 post (joined the site to enter this giveaway specifically) with 6 of those linked. What it means I really can't say. Maybe we just got a huge influx of new community members who will begin contributing on a regular basis but my cynical side finds that pretty hard to believe. I think the easiest way to minimize fake accounts would be to require your D3 profile to enter a giveaway unless the creator specifically says it's open to everyone. Also that the winner would have to claim the prize with the same battlenet account that's linked to their profile here (this would prevent people from using random bnet info). I think it would also be simple to prevent multiple uses of the same bnet account across different D3RMT accounts. Too strict? Maybe for some but they would just need to decide what's more important to them, their complete anonymity or the ability to win cool stuff. Just my 2 cents. |
