If he was really worried about dupe accounts he could always do an IP check.

After hearing what @gnawol said, I think an IP check or battle tag requirement might be needed. I have nothing against new users or people coming just for the giveaway, I mean a few months ago I was one of them. Came for the giveaways, stayed for the community...

We actually had the minimum post discussion last time. When Anuiran ran the contest last time, there was as 2 post minimum and, for the most part, it resulted in a lot of spam across a lot of threads so it didn't seem to be particularly effective at anything other than annoying people.

The problem with setting a higher threshold is that part of it would mean a lot of spam, but more importantly, it wouldn't drive traffic to the site. It would certainly seem like a fine print "catch" to the contest and would drive away traffic as soon as it showed up. There are more than a few regular members here that came for the contests, but took a look around the site and the forums and stuck around for the content and community. If there's even a 5 post minimum certainly only forum regulars will win prizes ... but that kind of defeats the purpose of needing to grow the userbase.

This contest is not a perfect system, but it's probably the best system for the sake of public relations and driving traffic here. If nothing else, it's an honor as a member of the community that Anuiran is pointing people to a thread in the forum rather than the front page. It shows he believes the people that make up the D3RMT community are worthy ambassadors of the site.

Anuiran is already supporting the existing community with his Monday giveaways and Tuesday contests. 15 million Gold here, 30 million Gold there is still $5 here and $10 there.

i think what it all boils down to is, gimme the LOOT

all joking aside, i think you gotta take the bad with the good... if new ppl are just joining for the giveaways, nothing we can do to make them stay... i think i found this site while searching for an AH tracker, and saw that a giveaway was going on at the same time

aside from any malicious intent, i dont mind someone winning a prize for a single post

maybe we should do a "member only" giveaway... like open giveaways(like the current one), vs member only ones... to be a "member" you need to meet a,b,c prereqs (battletag, posts #, etc)

Yeajh i didn't even consider the spam option as it just never occurs to me to spam my into post counts and forums.

Member only with requirements is a good idea i reckon.

I'm with @khan on the profile link and I fully agree with @douvinsky that no one is forced to abide by the rules. If you dont like the rules dont enter, simple as that. One of the things I've always loved about this site is the community. I've met so many cool people that share my Diablo passion because of this site. I get annoyed when there is a give away and some random person wins with one post and no profile link. Anyone remember @vaco on the massacre challenge? Crap like that makes me want to ignore the challenges alltogether. I'm all for new members joining the community but there seems to be a good bit of douchebaggery going on with the giveaways.

I fully agree with all the benefits but a lot of people are paranoid on the internet, I have had people ask me if I am selling battletags to gold selling websites.

I am just trying to please everybody. But like I said, I will consider everyones input.

Ha i noticed you did not mention either yes you do or no you dont, i can see it now in roughly 9 hours we will all get locked out of our account and this site will have a big message on the home page stating you were warned of the end of days!

Was looking foward to maybe winning something. My Interest in playing has been waning lately

having a functioning account linked to the profile really help weed out the d3rmt new account creators.

P.S:
Since Anuiran is giving away the rewards, he should be able to see the account of the ppl that won each prize, and if a person won 2x (or more) he should be blacklisted..since they created multiple posts w/new accounts just to get more chances.

I have a partner of 12 years but my mistress is D3 - unfortunatly my mistress and partner pften play together without me.....

At least they get along.
