Is it me-or r Tome of Secrets dropping like crazy

Every goblin so far has dropped 3 of them. Droppin ALL over act 2 ..... and speaking of Act 2 - breezing through it with the dogs and garg. Before 1.04 I'd die pretty often - now - no problem so far.

Their drop rate seems to scale by Act. My guess is you're just killing more monsters in a shorter period possibly in a later Act than your normal runs. Or they increased the drop rate, but I don't think that happened.

I've been getting a lot more of them than before as well...

Also more legendaries are popping out. Was running with 3 friends yesterday and 2 legendaries dropped in an hour.

It's all about the RNG. I've been having problems with the ToS. Sometimes i get a lot per hour, sometimes they're rarer than legendaries.
As for legendaries, farmed for weeks, no drop. Last weekend got 2 in 1-2 hours (one of them was Stormshield).

Followup - been spending more time in A2 and A3 lately and not as many as right after 1.04 was put in and nowhere near as many as in A1.

From personal experience, I would say Tomes drop far more often in Act1 than any other act. I've farmed a ton of A2/A3 and see very minimal in comparison to act1. If you are after tomes, stick to act1 imo

I suspect this has to do with Treasure Class. Remember in Diablo 2 how the spirit creatures couldn't drop weapons and armor?

I think the same thing happens with gems in Diablo 3. The monsters everyone is/was farming on Act 1 - presumably Hold/Butcher runs - had a higher chance to drop Tomes. My guess is the skeletons, zombies and/or cultists drop Tomes more often than the average demon. Vault Runs in Act 2 a full of skeletons so I'd guess the skeleton treasure class has a large Tome drop probability.

I don't even pick them up anymore. At ~400g per tomb, it's hardly even worth the time to target and click them before you get moving again. I have had treasure goblins drop like 5 at once though, which is tempting..

In Act1 they are dropping at a very fast rate for me, not to much effort to pick them up with the other loot, even if they are only worth ~400g atm I use them and it keeps me from buying them in the AH.

I find from 10 to 15 per run in act 1

Tomes are at like 200 gold... Unless you're REALLY having trouble farming, it's not really worth it to pick them up. The seconds it takes to click on them adds up; you also have to "wait" for the drop instead of preemptively moving forward. I will stop for 1000+ gold piles, but that's far faster to get and that's already 5 tomes.

Does that mean now is the time to stock up?

I really wish Tomes costed as much as they did back then. I have almost 3k back in my storage. Drop rates still feel the same as they did back during release, though.

It is dropping like hell. Prices going down on those as welll... At least that is my impression...

I think it has to do with the fact that 1.0.4 increased chances of dropping blues by 4x. This probably somehow affected the tomes drop ratio as well.

I'd say no, since the price plummeting is directly associated with the substantial increase in drop rate. This drop rate isn't changing, so the price has evened out now, and likely won't be going up anytime in the future.

This means you can choose to pick 'em up if you're crafting, otherwise treat them as stacks of 100-200 gold, which I usually leave laying there. It's likely not worth the time or effort to go out of your way for extra clicks if you're focusing on efficiency of runs. If you really need some tomes, buy some! If the price should, for any reason, increase again, then sure... pick them up.

Bought out insanely many tomes in hope of the prices to increase but how wrong I was.

I have been getting so many I stop picking them up. The don't cost much and I have like 200 if I need to make gems.

Its not even worth collecting them anymore. Even crafting gems has stopped being worth it.
